just one week until the great pumpkin chase. i will be dressing up, i'm just not sure as what. last year i was dressed as my grandmother and ella and fi were dancing elephants (instead of mermaids - it was just way too cold for their mermaid costumes last year). this year the girls will be flower fairies, but with running shoes and long johns. at last roll call, these were the folks running great pumpkin. is this right?

ian? kris? steven? come on, one more race???

we've had several new minnesota folks join the boards lately...if that's you, WELCOME! please consider joining us at this halloween race. there is a 10k and a 5k trail run, as well as a kids fun run (for those with kids interested in running). unlike autumn woods, most of this run is on grassy trail versus paved trail. hopefully it will be warmer than autumn woods (a girl can dream, right?). here's the website:

I will not be able to do Great Pumpkin.  Mike & Anne have their first swim meet of the season next weekend.  It's time for the tables to turn and Mom gets to be the (nervous!) spectator!  Mike is going for his Zone times in backstroke and fly this year and Anne is competing for the first time.

Have fun everyone!  BTW, I just returned from my 8 mile training run and YES, I will be able to do this half-marathon on Nov. 27!!

I'm officially in - for the 10k. I should be dressing up as I'm not exactly going for time. Between a cold and a biz trip to Mexico, I haven't trained in two weeks. Oh well, it should be fun.

What I really want to know is... whether the t-shirt is cool enough to drive down and run in the saturday morning chill... shouldnn't be too bad huh... its still kind ah warm out isn't it ? 40-50s.. maybe thats perfect running weather... I'm still stewing over it...but you might see me , a newbie to BT... good luck and keep warm!...

Well, last years's tshirt was, uh, bright! See attached picture from last year's race for pic of me modeling shirt, shivering with Granny Autumn.

The forecast I saw this morning called for a high of 58 on Saturday, but of course it won't be that warm at 10 a.m. Still should be nice running weather though! And the company will be worth the trip anyway, of course.

the shirts are perfect for wearing halloween night when you're handing out candy. bright orange w/ spooky scarecrows. last year's dracula dash shirt was black with (duh) vampires. not sure what the shirts will look like this year, but i would bet on something similar.

must think of a costume for this year! somehow the windbreaker ruined the granny effect last year. here are the girls in their new buttercup fairy outfits. i love photoshop. my mil's bday is on halloween, and she makes the girls AMAZING costumes every year. last year i started a scrapbook for her of pictures of the girls in the costumes she's made. last year they were mermaids popping out of waves. this year, i went the photoshop route to make them look more like real fairies. worked pretty well!

Wellllll...... I was going to do the Great Pumpkin Chase as Autumn noted above but a stress fracture in my fibula just above the ankle will be preventing that. Sigh... Of course, this happened on what I thought was my best run ever. Don't know exactly how it happened but I'm off it for at least another three weeks. I guess this is the perfect opportunity to spend more time on the bike and in the pool. I need work on both, to say the least.

I hope you all have a blast out there!

Not going to the pastafest, nope. Jenna has a swim meet tonight.

What time is everyone arriving? We're shooting for 9:00.

I'll have to try to find the BT 5k crowd after I hobble in from the 10k (pulled a hip muscle running this week...do NOT try to make up for two weeks off by running three days in a row hard) and introduce myself.

we're aiming to be there by 9:15 at the latest. the plan is to leave here by 8:45 and its about a 15-20 minute drive. kids race is at 9:45 so we need to be there early to get the race packets and everything.

it was great seeing folks there - kelly, mark, jaren. i was on the lookout, but am sorry if i missed seeing anyone else. we'll have to meet up there again next year.

and yes, THE GIRLS WON BEST COSTUME(s) for the second year running! (ba dum dum - pun intended). AND they went on to win best costume(s) for their age group at the science museum of minnesota zoo-ology event that same day. so, two wins in a row for the fairies! their grandma, who has made the costumes every year, was quite pleased.

Wow!  Your girls had a banner day!  I wish we had been there too - but we were at the pool -- and my kiddos did very well there.  Trade offs...
