Oipolloi, you need to reverse the brainwashing you received at Starbucks by turning on Foxnews for some right-wing brain washing. I don't know any right-wing musicians... Ted Nugent?

Btw, Outfoxed was a great documentary. Any idea where I stand on the political spectrum?

You're from Canada.  I have no doubt where you stand.

Most of us Canadians start from a different place from Americans, so it's a stretch to get us as far right as even the average American. Of course, there are some pretty right-wing Albertans out there.

I know why GWB is too left for you, he spends like a drunken sailor.

Being born in America with Scottish/German blood lines I can't help but be Right.  Not religious, political right necessarily, I'm just further away from the Left than most.  What is Left and Right anyway...its so diluted anymore I just don't seem to agree with either side.  I know one thing...I don't like GWB.  And I do like Canadians.

I've seemed to have hijacked my own thread.  Back to the discussion of socialism and russian coffee house music.  Perhaps Opus works for Starbucks and you're trying to divert my attention.

A little while ago my Dad asked me to accompany him to a discussion on Globalization (at a coffee house, excuse me, a coffee house collective). I expected to get attacked by the longhairs as I had arrived directly from work (with a stop at a French restaurant... can you get more bourgeois?). Anyhow, I was surprised at the diversity of the crowd, sure there were longhairs, but there were also quite a few people who had bathed within the previous month. I didn't learn anything new, except perhaps that I now know how I sounded when I was in university.

What was my point again? Oh yeah, coffee is a tool of socialist indoctrination. You must stop drinking it or you will inevitably begin utter slogans like "Bread, Peace and Land" at unexpected times, as though you suffer from Tourette Syndrome.

Allow me to turn your question on its head...

Know any conservative, capitalist, free-market, social evolutionary (i.e. every man for himself) music? Britney Spears, Nsync, etc.

What a great song to have in my head - It's a family affaaaaaaair...

I bought the Dylan cd-set from the PBS documentary. Was captivated by Bobby's eyes.

And I think you mean Joan Baez, not Biaz.

.

I'd consider switching to Tea, but Moby ruined that for me.  (another hyper-lib).  Tea is also far to pretentious.

Sorry...yes...Joan Baez.

How sad that musicians you will never know have such influence on your consumption habits! I sorta' know how you feel - Bill O'Reilly has put me right off falafel. Ick...

Tea is awesome! So civilized when you're cold and wet. Or just cold. Earl Grey with a spot of milk and 1 tsp sugar.

My fear was Starbucks was going to lead me towards group B.  Not to scare anyone here, but I'm so far right I think G.W. is a liberal.

I'm so far left I'm right.

I don't really concern myself with what others think is reasonable.

My point is that I don't take my cues from some dogmatic playbook.

These liberal/conservative labels just seem so knee-jerk and unhelpful to reaching understanding. As far as I'm concerned, you could substitute "Gator" for liberal and "Seminole" for conservative (or any other football team) and it would be just as instructive to someone's viewpoint. When I see/hear people throwing the labels around, they might as well be saying "That's just like the poopyheads to think that!" or "What a typical dummy-butt!" Playground crapola.

People are far more complex than these little labels refect.

still off topic, but... the worstbest insult I have ever heard was from my brother and dad re: a boy I was "going out with" in early HS. This boy was, um, pudgy and my brother knew him from hockey, and they all called him Pizza-Tits. Soooo sad (and funny, esp since I had zero tatas at the time...)
