War Eagle Hey!!
Subject: Admission of bonehead move!!
Last night I was out in my little shop about 30 mins into a training ride on my "new" cycleops trainer. Everything was going good, I was excited about my new toy and about being able to train after dark safetly. What I am trying to say is that I was into it and really feeling good about myself. Then my wife walked in, very unimpressed I might add kind of like when a cat walks in a room, and watches for a little while and starts to laugh, not really at me but like she just discovered something that she can't wait to tell her friends. Of course I get distracted and have to slow down and ask her what is so funny, and she says in her "I am so much smarter than you voice" Oh I was just wondering Why do you have your helment on?? Well I.......... I mean .........Oh that, well everone knows you have to train excactly like you race right? Well that is what I told her but I am pretty sure she did not buy it. Anyone else get so into a workout that they do something stupid?? Surely I am not the only one! Right... Anyone......

I'd wear the helmet! I fell off my trainer once! That was my bonehead move...it can happen!

Yeah I've fallen off the trainer too. She was cute, though, so I was easily distracted.

But seriously...you could have told her that you like to simulate actual riding conditions as much as possible; if you rode without a helmet, your head would be cooler than  if you were riding on the rode and would therefore skew your training. Or some bullsh*t like that.

I tried to cover with something like that about wanting to simulate the race conditions as close as I could but she did not buy it. I have always been bad at covering up things I do that are stupid so most times I just have to laugh at myself. I did almost fall to trying to unclip and get off so maybe I should wear it after all. It did strike me as very funny that I was sitting perfectly still in the comfort of my little shop on a bicycle that is not moving wearing a helment. Thats funny right there... I dont care who you are.

Yeah well at least you weren't doing a Bob Roll and riding in the buff. That would be harder to explain.

It needs to be as realistic as possible - put a fan in front of you next time.

To digress: The falling off the trainer comments reminded me of the immortal words of a former boss, "There are all kinds of ways to look foolish."  We had beached the boat and he told be to throw out the anchor.  "I feel kind of foolish putting out an anchor with the boat sitting on the beach."  His reply, "Would you rather look foolish throwing out the anchor on dry land or swimming after the boat when the tide comes in?"  Anchors aweigh!

So if you had a ball gag to go along with the helmet it would have been ok?

Jim, where did you have your trainer set up that you fell off when a cute girl walked by?

I meant the trainer was cute and that I fell off of her. Get it?

Sheesh. When you have to explain your jokes it means one of two things: 1) they're just not that funny or 2) they are intellectually above the audience.

And I know I'm funny...

When I started this tread I was thinking other people would post bonehead things they had done so I would know I was not he only one who did them.... Now I am wondering if I would need a helment for a ball gag? This is why I love BT, very inspiring.

Oh don't underestimate our ability to get your humor (except for Haley, she rides the short bus).

And welcome to BT. I think you're gonna fit right in. There's lots of good bonehead stuff out there. For some of my gems, you can search the forum for "three mile island wings" and "boiled egg", just for starters.

Was it a new helmet? It's okay then. The fact that it was a new trainer might help make up for it. When I got my new helmet I wore it for everything... hell I'm wearing it right now.

Thanks Jim, I worry sometimes things read differently than I intend and someone will get offended about something I never ment to be offending. Being new people don't know how to take you. After reading the treads you suggested I maybe to advanced for this forum. Anyone know the website for Intermediate Triathlete??

How about "boneheadtriathlete" or "justforfuntriathlete" not to be confused with "cupofjoetriathlete.com"
