I know that you're supposed to take every fourth week off during active training, what about during the off season/build phase? Is it safe to just keep increasing your distances as long as the majority of your workouts are aerobic?

Joscon, while increasing your distances sound sexy, you're far better off creating a standard week that you can repeat..over..and over..and over. It's all about consistency.

Are you training for an event or just trying to maintain?

Just training for next season, this year was my first and I am horribly slow. A lot of what I have read recommends lots of slow effort miles running and cycling for a few months to build a base then adding speed as the season kicks in.
