If you're going to ice your knees after a run, should it be immediately afterwards, or is there a longer window of time that you can still get some benefit from it?

Ice is always beneficial to minimize inflammation. The ideal time is to use ice after injury is within 10 minutes for the injury. This is according to research. The longer you wait the recovery "inflammation process" will have started it's metabolic processes and have a head start. But, ice at any time will help. I would advocate icing multiple times during the day, at least three. AM, after workout, PM are the three. I tell people to ice during times they are stationary, ie at your desk, watching tv, reading to the kids. It's just a matter of getting it out of the freezer.
