Sitting here in Tel Aviv...watched the world Curling Championships on Eurosports today (busy day I know). It was USA women VS
Sweden. Seems to me that all that broom action would be a good upper body workout. Anyone tried that?

Hmm... I'm guessing no Seinfeld re-runs...

If you really need some upper body workout, I suppose you could go curling... but it seems like their might be one hundred and one other options first!!

Not to disparage any curling enthusiasts. I'm sure it is a fabulous sport... but it's a little slow to watch (IMHO!!)

I curled for a season and it is just so much fun. I wish there was a club near where I lived now. The rocks weigh 19kg(over 40lbs). The sweeping is an ok workout, but it isn't about the strength as much as the smarts and skills. The best unwritten rule in curling happens after the game is over. The winner has to buy the loser a bier. If you win you get to say I won, but if you lose you get a free bier out of it. It was my first season, and I was on a team of beginners. I got a lot of free bier that year. If you ever get a chance, give it a try.

Charles

(I know that I spelled bier different than normal but I was in Germany and bier tastes so much better then beer.)

If you think I'm picking up a broom and making an appearance in front of my wife, you are crazy...I'll have a new job in a heartbeat! LOL

I grew up in Northern Ontario - curling was a huge sport (just after hockey).  Most fun was wathcing all those "curlers" drinking beer and eventually falling all over the ice. BUT - upper body?  Some - but the best thing to do is to use a flat bench and use the stones as dumbells - that will really help those wrist flexors to boot!
