Sunny
Total Time = 5h 43m 34s
Overall Rank = 151/473
Age Group = Male 40-44
Age Group Rank = 24/53
Pre-race routine:

Nutrition bar breakfast followed by stretching and relaxation.
Event warmup:

No real warmup routine.
Swim
  • 35m 50s
  • 2000 meters
  • 01m 47s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pleased with performance. Came in approximately 6 minutes ahead of schedule. Plenty of gas left.
What would you do differently?:

Work on freestyle stroke so that I can hit pace quicker. Long transition into own pace.
Transition 1
  • 03m 42s
Comments:

Slow transition. Felt like there was another 1:30 to take out.
What would you do differently?:

Shoes pre-clipped.
Bike
  • 2h 48m 43s
  • 59 miles
  • 20.98 mile/hr
Comments:

Pleased with overall result. Once into pace, felt extremely strong.
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps push a bit harder. There may be another 1-2 mph in my legs. Difficult to determine due to rolling hill nature of the course.
Transition 2
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

Failed to appropriate lace shoes in T2. Would pay the price for this error beginning at mile 7. Cost my performance at least 20 minutes. Perhaps more.
What would you do differently?:

Take the time to lace tight!!! This was the one big failure of the day!!!
Run
  • 2h 12m 43s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Extremely poor performance!!! Should have come in at 8:30 pace. Shoe issue caused loss of time and now have foot damage that must heal. Am particularly disappointed in the run. Should have come in as my second strongest discipline.
What would you do differently?:

Come out with shoes tied tighter. Pushed pace at the start. I laid back in fear of blowing up later in the race. Clearly had pace left in my legs.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Shoe issues.

Event comments:

Will definitely be back. For my first ever triathlon, I could not have asked for more!!! I am very pleased with the production team and volunteers.
