Anyone own an xterra. I'm thinking of getting one, just wanted to know what you thought. Positive or negative.

I do not own an Xterra and never had. That said, two of my good friends have them (one has the original model and one has the new model).

It seems like a lot of vehicle for the money. The new model is a lot nicer and more refined than the old model. That said, niether is a solid off-roader. You will be fine on dirt/gravel roads, but if you plan to do any rock crawling, mud, etc. the Xterra is not your vehcile.

You may also want to consider the Hummer H3 (more expensive) and the Jeep Commander (more expensive). Both are better off-road (don't know how important that it to you).

If you're looking for a cool, in-town SUV, the Xterra is a bargain.

My 1989 Nissan pickup finally died this year. During its last nine months it was in the care of a family member who...well, drove it a little harder than it probably should have, and didn't keep up with the maintenance.

I'm already looking at her replacement...another nissan. The Mrs. keeps trying to talk me into a toyota.

My boyfriend has one (2004). He loves it. The only thing he doesn't like is that to fold down the rear seat backs to get more cargo space, he has to remove the rear seat cushions. If you leave them in you can't fold the backs properly. That is really annoying.

I bought a Jeep Unlimited this last summer.  It's the new longer Wrangler.  It's a unique vehicle and not for everyone but you can get a really good deal on it and I ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LOVE IT!  With the budget I had to spend I could have gotten a more luxurious SUV but once I saw this thing in person I fell in love with it.  On the other hand I'm a ragtop man so I'm willing to put up with things like roll up windows.  My kids love it too-especially when I take the doors off and they play "fire truck" on it.  Wranglers are not as rough as they used to be either.  The ride is like a typical mid-size SUV and it's automatic, got the 6 cd dash changer, bass tube, etc.

I also have a friend who has now had 2 Xterras and is loyal to them, so they must have something going for them as well.

I'm getting about 13-17 MPG city and 19-25 MPG highway.  Depends on how you drive.  Still love it.  I agree with some of the issues.  Back seat cushions are a bit annoying and to open my moonroof, you have to take off the wet bin.

2000, Solar Yellow. My friends call it the short bus. Just turned 130,000 and I've had it for about 3 years. Plan to keep it for another 70,000 or so. Great truck. Goes like a champ on or off road (yes, it has been off road). Also good for hauling heavy, wet, smelly scuba gear

Oh, and yes - I will get another one.

i've spent some time behind the wheel of the older model (180HP in both auto and manual) and you have to drive it like you hate it to get the power that i want in a vehicle.

that said, the new 265HP won the motortrend SUV award (as bear said) and i'm VERY interested in test driving it. if it handles like i think it will, i'll have to snag one of those babies with the electronic rear diff and the 6-speed on the floor.

ok now i'm all hot 'n' bothered.

I know you're "j/k" and I'm suprised that's the only shot I got but I drive 40 miles each way to work every day and I'd rather save my quads for the bike.  I used to have a stick but when you start walking in circles because your clutch leg is bigger than than the other it really sucks.  I was also trying to dispel the idea a lot of people seem to have that Jeep's only come in stick, which the driving of seems to be a lost art among "the younger" crowd.

I'm looking at one of these right now, and guess what...I found a dealer here in Massachusetts that takes them and afterfactory upgrades the interior to Leather with the heated seats. I was in awe. You just can't beat that toasty bun feeling when you get in the truck after a long day on the mountain! WOO HOO! (Consequently, they are not that much more expensive and also come equipped with all the roll bar goodies).

they are nice and they do handle offroading quite well. I would recomend paying the money for the supercharged version tho. It does make a big difference.

The new jeeps are really nice as well, but my money is being saved for the new Doge power wagon. It takes trail rated to a new level
