I'd go buy the diamonds from a wholeseller and have a ring made. You tell her you how much thought you put into the design and just think of the nookie you'll get for months to come.

Errr...isn't that supposed to come with the "marriage thingy" anyways? Man, it's good no one told me about that ahead of time...I might have REALLY spent some cash!

Ther're both made of carbon atoms.  Diamonds have 3D structure of carbon atoms, and carbon fibers have 2D mesh structure with carbon atoms lined up to fiber direction and entwine together. Just tell her that. It's all good.

As a wise man told me before I got married "you can either be right or you can be happy, chose wisely." I asked my wife what she wanted for rings and then thats what I got!

As a future husband, the above is all you need to know.

I understand that carbon can also be found in diamond.

You are a smarta$$. I like it.

Diamond is an allotrope of carbon (meaning it is carbon and only carbon) same as graphite and coal.

Hey, this is cool! We're finally getting our thread on organic chemistry!

Anyone wanna expound on sn2 reactions, or maybe conjugated pi systems?

DO NOT GET THIS RING. There.. it has been said, again. I just got married, and got a plain platimum 6mm band. Simple, easy, timeless. The timeless is critical in my book. When I see some of teh wedding bands out for sale now, I think that is the brady bunch desgin of the 21st century....

The bimolecular reactions are so much sexier than the lonely unimolecular ones.

It's ok, but I'd rather see the bond making and breaking. Mmmm...nucleophilic attacks. So hot...

This whole thread is merging with my personal life - a buddy of mine just emailed me about his company's process of low temperature sulfuric alkylation for gasoline production and how it was a superior process to the hydroflouric process currently in general use - which is highly volatile and toxic under ambient conditions.

We then talked about subbing in a training run with a turkey trot - WORLDS ARE COLLIDING.

Oh -and I'm just a transportation geek, so no picturey goodness of the chemical reactions shown above. Sorry
