This is for all of those fformer Hali-town residents and the surrounding bluenosers.

I have been told that its dangerous to bike in the rain in Halifax because there is a lot more oil in the air so the roads are really slippery. Is this true??????

Now I can’t say that I heard that one before, about oil in the air. I don’t think its safe to bike in Halifax at the best of times. I think it’s the least bike friendly city in North America. We have a total of maybe 100 yards of bike lane’s. So if your going to bike here in the rain make sure everyone can see you.

Cheers.

Rice.

I've never heard of the oil in the air.

However, I've biked in the city (mainly Dartmouth side) in the rain occasionally and have never really noticed a difference - let a little air out of your tires for a little more contact and you should be fine.

However, as the previous poster mentioned - Halifax is a terrible place to bike in the best of times. Few bike lanes and the ones we do have disappear into nothingness after 150m. Find some quiet streets to times to ride or get outside the city - there are lots of nice rides that are much quieter just outside the city.

Best of luck!

You want bike lanes you need to make your way out to Victoria. The entire population out here are hippies on bikes

There are a few listed on Cyclesmith's website - the ones I use are on the Dartmouth side - around Cow Bay is probably the best.
