1st time event for me, 4 miles into an 8 miler one calf cramped up hard. Needless to say, it was a long way home. Anyway after lots of stretching, protien bars, water and advil it's still tight. Is there any hope? Does anyone have an idea on recovery time? The calf is still real tight.

My experience w/ cramps is more water! Anytime I get volume depleted, I develop problems w/ cramps. If I stay hydrated, I do ok.

I used to have this problem after endurance sprint sessions, it would usually cause me to be walking on my toes for the next few days! - it may possibly be caused by the over exposure to lactic acid in your body as you contract the muscles in your legs. keep stretching and go get a massage

I've been getting calf cramps by the end of my masters swims. Haven't figured out what to do. Gonna try bannas and hydration.

I got severe cramps in both calfs during my first tri. Bricks will help a lot and like the others said...plenty of water.
