Reality!! I just registered for my first tri ($83!!). I've been planning on doing this for three months, but actually paying for it and commiting!! YIKES!! Can I run hard, bike fast, and swim strong?? Sure! Can I stop freaking out because I just signed up? NO!! YOWEEEEE! 9 days and counting!

LOL...I found that out too! Nothing like signing up for a big $$$ event to get you to realize that it's all gonna happen. You'll do fine, just be sure and post the results for us and give a nice race report, complete with all the things you liked about the event. Have a great race, we're all cheering for you!

YOU CAN DO IT!!! Don't psych yourself out. If there are 9 days left, remember to taper and take it easy the week before the race. Maybe spend the extra time doing "mental preparation" work.

Thanks everyone - I've been working on that visualization part - picturing myself crossing the finish line, then I start crying when I'm running or biking - I didn't think this would be so emotional! So many feelings - excited, scared, wondering if I'm crazy, anxious... Bought a competition swimsuit today, and jsut kept staring at myself in the dressing room of the store, thinking "Am I actually going to do this!?!" WOW!

Subject: the crying game
that is an interesting point - the crying. I keep thinking of that scene in "A League of Their Own" - "There's no crying in Baseball"! I get emotional thinking of finishing the tri - and feel an odd need to come up with a celebratory dance or ritual....There was the flying belly-bump thing from highschool basketball. that was fun. I once did a swim leg of a tri for a team, and at the end, even though we placed in co-ed teams and did very well - I still felt oddly cheated of the triumph. So, when I do it all myself, I intend on making an issue of it. I may have an 11 year old neice witnessing it all. I had better look cool.....

When I finished my first tri I have to admit that my eyes started watering a bit when I saw the finish line in sight, I am actually a little moved just thinking back on that memory. It helped that my wife (tribarbie on this site) and my kids were right there waiting for me. I just told my wife a few weeks ago that I almost wish I hadn't signed up this year for our local tri so that I could be there to watch her do her firs tri. I guess we will meet on the run somewhere because it is a out and back run. Al.

All right, cannoli!!

We'll be racing on the same day! Enjoy it--and cry your eyes out!!

Hey... my race was a lot more than yours!! What's up with that?? Oh, BTW, I'm entering races in the Directory for your region. Which one are you doing?? Did I get it?? If so, go back and rate the race for us, all right. If not, let me know which one it is and I'll enter it asap.

In case you don't know how to get there, hit the directory button (next to training log) then go to races->united states->southwest region->arizona->then go from there depending on what your race is...

Hey Dana, neat to know you're racing that day, too! Where is yours? You got my race in the directory - the Tempe Multi-Sport Challenge. I'll let you know how it goes!

My race is called the Wildflower--sort of an infamous triathlon, often called the Woodstock of triathlons, as it is in the middle of nowhere, and there is no housing options other than camping and there are 10,000 participants. So there we are at Lake San Antonio, tent stake to tent stake.

Verrrryyyyy interesting!!

and fun, I might mention! Any one out there thinking about doing a California tri, give it a whirl! No sprint options though, Oly, 1/2 IM and MTB courses.

Dana
