Hi all. Well all two of you, it wouldn’t seem we have to many people here in the Halifax area. Any of you belong to a running club or triathlon club in the area? I was wondering if you had any feed back on them? And if you think they are worth wild?

Cheers.

Rice.

There are a couple of tri clubs on the other side of the Harbour but Carl and I had discussed the possibility of starting a tri club in Cole Harbour...

As for running clubs, I don't belong to one but I've seen a group running in Shubie Park on a regular basis so there are some out there.

As I have never belonged to a club then I can't really comment on their worth, however I also don't have any trouble putting in the miles alone. I'm sure if you prefer to run with others or if motivation is a problem that they may be ideal in that situation.

I was part of the Tridents Tri club at the base, but I really wasn't impressed with it.  As was looking for beginners advice and it seemed more of an advanced club.  The Halifax tri club, http://halifaxtriathlonclub.ca/, looks pretty good. The Halifax Running Clubhttp://www.halifaxrunningclub.com have some really cool singlets and have a large representation at many events in town.

http://runnovascotia.ca/

I haven't totally abandoned the thought of starting my own club for beginners, but time is few and far between recently and I haven't been able to apply the brain hoousing group to the concept.

Well, with three of us in the same area - maybe between us we can look at making a go of it. I think the only big thing that we would need to track down is a place that will give us a deal to swim (apparently the Halifax club has a huge waiting list for their swim practices and the people I've talked to love them). I'm not sure what an hour of pool time is worth at different places but we may be able to swing a deal where we only pay for lifeguards and if we can get a few people interested (even one per lane) we can probably do it cheaper than an open swim price.

Anyway, like Carl I don't have a lot of time but I'm definitely interested...

I’m in the same boat with time. It’s a valuable commodity these days. And I also agree with the fact that I’m really not looking for teem runs or work outs to keep me motivated, I usually do ok myself. I use to go to the weight room with other guys all the time when I was in the navy. I found more often then not they would bale and I would use it as an excuse not to go myself.

I would definitely be interested in looking into a new club with you guys. I think the thing that I would be initially looking for would be social motivation, inspiration, tips and ideas, and planing for race preparation..

So with that being said I think the first step would be to start getting together and take it from there.

You guys up for a coffee sometime before Christmas?

Cheers.

I could do Coffee.  Navy, eh.  I'm still in.  Former NESOP now MARS officer working at the Fleet School.  Your Background, if you don't moind me asking.

Your idea for a club is exactly what I had in mind TRI is an individual sport and I teach the train the way you fight; why should it be different from sport.  It would be nice to meet.

I'm definitely up for coffee - although Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays are usually pretty rough the rest of the week I can usually find some time.

Just thought I would check in before going down for some rest. I was an Acoustic tech in the navy. Joined in 92 and did just about six years. Took just as long to stop missing it.

I’m flexible during most days, with notice. But I can also make time on evening. How’s about Wednesday 8pm? How about at the Starbucks coffee shop in the Chapters book store?

Cheers.

Shane and I were both there, no harm no foul.  I am sure we can arrange another mutually convinient timing.  We could even do one of the timmie's close to CHP before a workout.  thoughts?  I know not the best JOE but convinient.

Hey I am coaching my daughters school run club in preparation for the kids to enter the 5 K blue nose Marathon event.  I'm stoked about this.  Regestraion for the event is now open and I plan on the 1/2 Mary this year hope the weather is better than the last two.  20/21 May are the days.

Hey that’s great.. I don’t know why but I didn't get an email last time for notice of a new post.

Yeah if you guys want to get together again I'm up for that.. I good for almost any area too.

Great job on the coaching. I'm so happy every time I hear of kids getting involved in activities like that. I'm looking at the full meal deal this year. Hopefully be a little better weather this year.

Cheers.

If anyone is looking for a running club there is a group that runs in Cole harbour that started last year. A great group with all different runners and levels and some great routes too. Check out the Salt marsh trail running club online for time and such. I realized that this is an older post but thought I would pass it along just the same! happy trails!
