OK, it's 12:30 AM here so I feel justified in starting this thread! Just got home a short while ago from a 275 mile trip to visit Ellen and Mike. Patti & I went down for dinner and an evening of general chit chat and hilarity. I can tell we had a great time, cuz it was over WAY too early. Ellen and Mike and family are good people...if you ever get the chance to meet them, do not pass it up. She's as funny in person as she is on the forum. I even behaved myself and watched the end of the Red Sox game with her...all 3 minutes of it, LOL! We had a great meal, ate way too many steamers, scallops, onion rings, etc. and filled the entire evening with tri war stories. What a blast! Thanks Ellen and Mike for being such gracious hosts. We'll see you for sure this summer in a couple of Cape Cod tri's.

Now I'm off to bed for 6 hours, then drive 150 miles in the opposite direction to spend a couple days in upstate NH. I'm taking the bike along for a 50 mile training ride while Patti goes shopping...I need to burn off a few extra calories!

Max

ok, I'm up.  I think I drank too much last night.  Too much water that is

Max and Patty, thanks for making the trip, we sure did have a great time!  I was so happy you arrived before the Red Sox game ended, I was truly worried that you would miss it.  Thanx for the kudos, you are too kind.

I think I'm doing a marathon today.....a laundry marathon    Don't know about anything else, got to shake out the cobwebs first.

Good luck at your race, Jen.

Yesterday didn't go quite as planned. We'd hoped for a 50 mile bike ride, but at mile 12 it started to pour down rain. So we turned around and came home. So, we only ended up with just over 24 miles. On the other hand, we rode the last 12 miles much faster than the first 12 -so maybe it all came out even. Then we went to a dinner at church and to our daughter's last college dance performance and both of those involved mega-food. So, as a result, I'm not getting on the scale today. No sirree Bob!

Today's plans:
yoga (long, focused on shoulder opening)
long swim (long in this context means 1 mile -so not really all that long)

Oh, and I forgot (selective amnesia???) Today is my first 5K race. I entered on a lark, and today's the day. Yinkies.

Good luck Andrea and Jen on teh 5k's. Max, so nice you and Ellen and hub/wife had a good time. It sounds like so much fun. I want to go to Ellen's and watch the end of a Red Sox game too!

Well, usually Sunday is a rest day, but today I'm going to do Yoga for the first time. I'm really excited. And then I'll go for a long swim. And Andrea, a mile is a long swim! I did drills yesterday, today I'm just going to test the waters! Have a great day all. It's raining here. Yeahhhh! We need the moisture but that means no bike rides!

I felt bad today. The sky was threatening to open up. It is raining on and off and it's chilly. I went to the Y and swam for 40 minutes. Hopefully tomorrow will be nicer and I won't feel so cooked.

Yahoo, I'm back from the race!
The weather was cold and very windy, but I still managed 5k in 27:25. That's pretty good for little old me who struggles with running. This race will be a baseline...haven't started to work on speed yet, but will start ASAP.
Going to fill out my first race log on this site.
Have a super day everyone! :-)

Just got back from Breckenridge - it is closing today! Still plenty of snow there and it snowed last night!

I think I'll take a break today. Start again tomorrow.

While on vacation, I had no access to a computer - I missed you all!

This last week I've been a mass of excuses: it's too cold, it's too hot, I don't feel like it, it's snowing, it's windy. Today I decided the minute I thought my first excuse that was the minute I started bundling up to get out, so at 10:00 (excuses start early for me), I but on a bunch of layers and headed out on the bike. 35 minute bike and a 12 minute run. Then came home to a few crunches and push ups.

Husband and I did a 13.7 mile loop with one steep climb (the climb is 0.7 miles from top to bottom) plus some other rolling hills thrown in. Did well on the ride except very slow on the climb. My 4th day in a row of working out! Finally getting a bit more consistent. Plan on swimming laps this afternoon. It's sunny and almost 90 degrees here in the Bay Area! Yahoo!

Ok, the race is over and I survived. Little old ladies were passing me, but I survived. 27:50, but I survived. And, as my husband pointed out, my race T-shirt looks just like everybody else's. It doesn't have my time stamped on the back or anything.

Today was my rest day. I spent Wed-Saturday in Yakima, WA (yes, I know you're all jealous) with 12 high school kids at an FBLA conference. We had a blast, but I was so beat when I got home yesterday that I knew I needed to get some decent sleep and NOT overdo it today.

So all I did was a 2-2 1/2 hour walk around Greenlake a few times in Seattle. Took the dogs and enjoyed the 70+ weather. Gorgeous day!

While in Yakima I actually got my long (for me) run in for the week at a nice clip. I started telling myself I just had to go for a mile, then two, then three, then well...let's go for four...oh heck, you can do five! Ended up with 5.25 at a pace of 9 min most of the time. Generally I keep my long (for me) runs at a slower pace, but I didn't start out intending it to be any more than a 30 minute run (which I lowered to a one mile run when I started because I thought I wasn't up to it). I also did elliptical, bike, weights, and abs while there over the four days. I'm proud of myself that I didn't let excuses get the better of me. I'll admit that I didn't do as much Saturday as I should (30 min elliptical run only because the treadmill in the hotel was too rickety to run on), but I had averaged 3.5 hours of sleep a night over the last 3 nights so I was happy to do even that.

I feel pretty proud that I managed to get outside for a run today. Went to a wedding on Saturday and all of the family meals (brunch, wedding reception at dinner, big breakfast the next day) and all of the drinking really made me feel like a slug. I wanted to exercise in between the brunch and wedding, but ended up napping instead.

Anyway, I had enough energy to do a run when I got home. My goal was to run 30 minutes but I ended up running 45 minutes straight, all up and down hills. I don't know the distance exactly, but I'm guessing my overall speed was around 10-11 min miles. That's the longest time I've run without a break so far!
