Subject: Female Question & Tip
Hello there Ladies,

Question: Can adding roughly half-again the aerobic exercise you're used to doing cause delayed cycles?

I haven't lost any weight because I've been lifting for awhile now, but I have gone from running an hour + every day to running that much and adding an hour of swimming twice a week and half an hour to an hour of biking two to three times a week. This is not a strain on my body; it feels GREAT. I have become a certified endorphin junkie.

I thought that cycles were only interrupted if you lost a ton of weight, which I have no designs on doing. Can exercise alone do it?

Tip: Just in case there are any ladies out there who have been blessed or cursed with a large chest, I found the BEST sports bra when I started running 3 weeks after our most recent little Viking was born. If a bra can contain the mammaries of a nursing mommy, it can contain anything. You can find it at www.figleaves.com and it is called the Shock Absorber.

I used to have to wear two bras the were each several sizes too small, and this one instrument of perfection takes care of the whole deal with no monoboob syndrome. Very cool. Thought I would pass that along for anyone who might need it.

My cycles were very erratic (for a couple days 3 weeks apart, then nothing for months) or non existent most of this year. My gyno said it was the changes in my body due to the change and intensity of exercise.

Congrats on the new addition!

Well, it's possible that you might have not lost weight, but you've lost body fat(replaced with muscle) and a decrease in body fat can have an impact on your cycles.

How long ago was your baby born? Could you possibly be pregnant again?

Checking out your bra link. I too wear two bras and get them smaller sized to keep motion down. It would be nice to go out with a little less armour on!

Oh, it's Shock Absorber Level 4. It's the one that looks like something Madonna might wear on stage. haha! They come in white too. Very good and the women on the phone there are very helpful with fit questions.

You know, it is possible that we're pregnant which would not be the end of the world. How's that for enthusiasm? Actually, it would be pretty cool. But I would sure miss my St. John's Wort.

hey...it's better enthusiasm then the suicidal feelings I would have if I learned I was pregnant!
I've got four from 18 down to 6, one who has severe multiple handicaps. I'm done!

How old is the wee'est viking?

Mine's pretty darn rock solid.  I ran 2 HIM's (June/Sept) and then did a marathon, century, and 5k swim in a period of three weeks, and I was never more than a day late all season.  And that is some serious volume of training.  So mine seems to be unaffected by increasing training.

I was 4 days early during my last recovery month though...4 days early is a BIG swing in my books.  Not really sure on that one.

Exercising always made me a little erratic, so it might be a possibility. It may also be that you're not quite back to normal after having a baby.

The first month after I upped my running, I pretty much skipped a month, bought a pregnancy test (that was weird) and it turned out negative. At least I know hubby and I will both be excited when we do start having kids . I'm back to normal now, but my doc said that changes in my cycle are not unusual.

Wow, that must be quite an emotional challenge. I've never met you and admire you already.

Our baby is just over a year, so I know it's nothing hormonal.

For those who have had long periods without periods (Oh my goodness, I am so funny.), did you have a stupid PMS sized tummy for an extra 2 months until your cycle returned?

It's not terrible. Most people would never notice, but there are only certain jeans I can wear comfortably and I'm taking B-6 like crazy.

No, no strange PMS things going on. Only minor symptoms before I get it (whenever that is) like breast tenderness or minor cramping, but not 2 or 3 months worth-thank goodness!
