I'm trying to decide between these two shoes.  Can anyone give me any input?

Are you an overpronator. The Beast is a motion control shoe. The 970 I believe is a stability shoe. If you are neutral neither one of these shoes would work for you. Another thing to think about is how tall/heavy are you? Both of these shoes are made for people who need a larger platform for their feet. The Beast is a straight last has a wide forefoot and but comes to more of a point than the NB. NB in general tend to have a more rectangular forefoot box. Look at the shape of your feet.

If you go to zappos.com and search the two shoes, they will give you pictures from all sides to help you get a better idea of the shape of the shoe. The best thing to do would be to go to the store and see which one fits your foot the best. Each shoe co. uses different shoe models so to speak. However if this is not an option zappos.com would be a good place to start.

Now just to give my personal opinion. I prefer Brooks in general to NB. They just fit the shape of my feet better.

Sorry so long.
Happy Training.

The Beast is for heavier people (mediaum to large build) with flat feet who need a lot of stability, motion control, and coushining). the NB 970 provides slightly less of each...according to Road Runner Sports.  I personally love Brooks...been running in htem for 15 years.  I've tried lots of other brands and always come back.  You really need to find a good running store with staff who can analyze your mechanics and suggest the appropriate shoe.  You can easily find yourself with sore knees, hips, feet if you pick the wrong shoe.

Thanks for all the advice. I tried on both shoes and went with the New Balance 970's.  So far so good.  Thanks for all your input.

Was just going to say... I'm 95kgs (210lbs) and my feet are so flat I have no arch and leave a triangular footprint, have always worn the Beast after the first time I bought trainers from a running shop and my shin splints, knee pain and everything else just disappeared within a week even without orthotics and I was able to double my mileage without problems. I now have orthotics in them and don't think its making a big difference. If you rate the NB's I might give them a try, but tough to move away.
