Good editorial! I always pull for/root for the people at the end! It is a huge victory for them.

I ran with my sister in law (she's now a pro Ironman) at a .5 IM where she had a bad heat stroke incident and wanted to finish....I remember her struggle. It was gruelling. Everytime I do a triathlon, I am up against me. That article says a lot. Here, here to all of us who may not have the natural abilities, but do have the hearts of champions!

i read that article twice through and just about cried. My first sprint tri is in 4 days, and am battling nerves and doubt. Am I too old for this? Am I nuts? But this article stuck a cord with me - I will be better for trying. For starting and heading towards the finish line with all my heart. I'm just hoping my body will follow obediently along! Thanks for the encouragement!

Cannoli,
Celebrate. It will be your first! I was a struggler in my first triathlon...I am still a struggler, but now I am a little more used to it!! You aren't too old. I won't comment on the status of your mental health. ;-) If you give it a moments thought, you will be in a SMALL minority of the population. You will have arisen and tested your training and will have become a triathlete. Strugglers are winners! You will be, too!
Vanessa :-)
