First off I'm very appreciative of the gifts I receive but it gets annoying to constantly receive gifts (not just for Christmas) that I don't like.

I have 2 bosses and they both gave me chocolate (and they always give me chocolate)...I don't like chocolate!  Stop giving me chocolateFrown

Rant over.

We have people here in my office that in a feeble attempt to get everyone something they went and bought the dollar store box of chocolate. I mean first of all you dont have to get me anything second if you are going to make the effort; make the effort.

I kow it is the thought that counts but I would have rather gotten a card from them.

Hmmmmm... I belong to the "Thank you for thinking of me" club. It's a gift. Just say "thanks."

Ditto. If you don't want it, drop it off at the homeless or abused women's shelter on the way to your safe cozy little home.

Renee, I did say thank you and I was very nice about it.

I was just saying that I would rather get a card from them.

and no I do not eat chocolate that much, usually my craving is at 3 a.m.

I was just saying that is all.... You guys make me feel like I have ruined Christmas...

I love gifts, I appreciate cards, but I don't want both. I've told my family that I think cards are superfluous when coupled with a gift. To me, the card either generates a guilty feeling in me when I throw it in the recycle bin, or it generates a feeling of resentment because it sits in a box for years because I feel like I'm obliged to keep it.

Save a tree, say no to cards!

I don't care either way - I've got a glass of Rioja sitting next to me, begging to be drunk.

Merry, merry, All!!!

I did say thank you, infact I said Great!  Thanks!

I've worked with these people for 2 years, they see me eat candy and cookies and cake never in chocolate.  I'm pretty sure it has come up in conversation during staff meetings.  Oh well.

The auditor just came in my cube so I gave it to him.  It's usually not hard to find someone that will eat it.

I kinda think the whole gift giving thing has gotten to be a bit much.  My office has a gift exchange and usually the gifts are well...interesting to say the least.  Given that most people in the office don't know each other too well, it's difficult to come up with a present.  I feel like giving presents should be reserved for people you know well and not really expected...like the boss giving everyone some random object while we all pretend to be excited about it.

My mom's best friend has known me since I was born.  Despite all sorts of attempts to discourage her, even direct requests, she INSISTS on giving my sisters and I presents each year.  In 26 years she has yet to come with a present that came even remotely close to something I'd like...even when I give her suggestions.  My mom would tell us "it's the thought that counts."...however, giving a gift for the sake of giving one with no thought at all is just stupid.

I think unless you have some close personal relationship with someone and can think of something that you know they'd appreciate, then you shouldn't be giving them presents.  If you have to...go for something like a starbucks or best buy gift card...nice and generic and involing no real present selection on your part.

Ok...sorry for ranting...just drives me nuts to smile and pretend to be excited over obviously thoughtless gifts.  And for the record...I am not a fan of beagles or afghan hounds.
