Subject: Tri training causing weight gain
My husband and I began training about 4 weeks ago for a triathalon and have steadily gained weight. (me five pounds, my husband 10). Does anybody have any idea why this is? Is it muscle gain?

Try to use your clothes as a marker. Are they thighter or looser?

I check my weight several times a day, just to get more of an average and to see if I may be dehydrated. I check it first thing in the morning, befoer a workout and after a workout.

The other day, I weight 191.5 in the morning, after my workout I weiged 185.5, the next morning I weighed 192.

Try not to get caught up in the numbers as much as the fit of your clothes. I bet they are a tad looser arn't they?

When I started training in April I weighed 165. Today, I hover between 161 and 163. But I have dropped 2 sizes of clothes and have defined muscle for the first time ever. Muscle gain is very common. Try to ignore the scale (easy for me to say!).

By the way, it's great you and your hubby train together...so do me and mine!

Agreed - I've dropped a size but no pounds since I started to train in earnest.  And that's a Jean's size, not something more nebulous.
