I just ran 10 miles (PB!) and when I got home and took of my shirt it looked like I had been shot... twice. And while I technically have no use for my nipples, I would like to keep them just the same (call it vanity). What can I do to prevent this? Does this happen to you ladies with the sports bra?

And no, funny people, a sports bra is not an option....

Not speaking from personal experience, but I think the weapon of choice is a little athletic tape over the offending mammary units. Or maybe you could wear a sports bra but call it something else? A cardio supporter? A manboob jock? The possibilities are delightful and endless....

tape, band-aids, or vaseline will usually do the trick. This used to happen to me all the time in soccer games.

Yeah, you'd look like a dork wearing a sports bra. Wetsuit at the pool is ok, but a man in a jog bra (remember the "Bro" from Seinfeld)? No, sports bras haven't caused me any chafing. Try bandaids or bodyglide.

Pasties perhaps?

I have one shirt I know I can't wear as it always causes bleeding. I now am conscious about the fabric of shirts I run in.

I posted basically the same question about six weeks ago - bleeding nipples are kind of painful and unattractive.

BODYGLIDE!  I bought a stick of that (nip guards are like $10 for 8 pairs, so I went cheap) and can report that my mams are no longer abraided, scabby or bleeding!

When I first put it on, I didn't think it would work, but it does - and a stick of it looks like it will last forever.

Well, I hear the "Smashing Pumpkins" are no longer playing together so the "Bleeding Nipples" would sort of fill that void now wouldn't they!?!

Good gosh! It's bad enough we have to worry about going the distance, but BLEEDING NIPPLES?! This sport has many more dangers than I was aware of.

Ow...hurting for you. I've never ran enough to experience this, but I've ran basically 0 so I'm not looking forward to any future experiences like this. Good warning!

I remeber the first time my nipples bleed. High tech fabrics help, and tight fitting. They are softer, smoother and don't move as much. The best solution is topless. No shirt at all to rub on the nips. Band aids work for me when it happens.
The weather will also play an important role. If it is humid and cold you are in trouble. Your nips will be nipping and your shirt will get heavy with sweat and just like sand paper rub you raw.

by the way nice run. Ten miles is a big marker.

I'm not sure if the neighborhood is ready for that - I can't speak for Tom, but I just don't think my neighbors would appreciate that sight!

I guess I've never had to worry about this since mine are always bound down in a bra when I run. Based on that experience (basically, that tight and unmoving = no bleeding) I'd tell you to do anything possible to mimic what a sports bra does. For women, a good sports bra will prohibit all motion and not rub up and down against the skin. My vote would be for bandaids. Your nips probably can be covered by them easily. That way, you can wear any shirt you want and the bandaids will protect from chafing. Just be sure to trip any hair around the areola so the bandaid doesn't stick.

BTW, OOOUUCCHHH, ouch, ouch, OUCH!

Also, congrats on your personal best. What's a little nipple bleeding when you've accomplished something so cool!

OMG, the before pics are something out of a horror movie! I knew that women could bleed due to nursing, but I never ever thought about men bleeding! :-(

I was just thinking that bandaids might not stick very well. I've found that Curaid waterproof bandaids stay on very good, through hardwork, sweating and even a shower.

I also wonder if liquid bandage would provide a nice thin layer of protection. That stuff stays on pretty good and isn't hard to apply.

I have never had a problem, even running in big old T-shirts. Mostly I just wanted to be able to say I posted in a thread with the name "Bleeding Nipples."
