Really fun race and it starts 2 miles from my front door.

By the way the Mullet referenced is a fish, not a haircut!!!

Perdido Key is just east of Pensacola, the race starts and ends in Florida but is mostly run in Alabama along the beach.

The Mullet referred to in the name is the fish but you usually see a few of the haircuts in this corner of the world.

I'm IN!!

Registered and everything..

Perdido Key is practically Orange Beach, AL
I have a feeling this will be the FLATTEST race I will ever be a part of.

So Ken..
What is the status of the Florabama? have they re-built it and re-opened.. or.. is it a bunch of trailers? (not that that would be a downgrade from before .. )

will

Will,

The course is flat except that you have to go over the Alabama Point bridge twice. What it lacks in hills, it makes up for in wind. I live 1.7 miles from the FB now and I ride the course 3 times a week and the wind is tricky and tough. Its usually a southeaster which means faster out than back and if its really windy then the bridge is tough on the way back.

The Flora Bama is a still a hodge podge of ramshackle. The old package store was torn down after last years Mullet Man. The rest of the indoor bar is still there but not habitalbe yet. The outdoor deck actually survived the storm and is as crazy as ever. They have viscine over it now because its cold but I am sure they will roll it back if its warm.

Its a fun race, but the swim is a mystery event. From 2002 thru 2004 the swim was across the street in Ole River. Every year it seemed to get shorter. I did a 5 minute 400 in 2004 (bartenders must have put out the swim buoys). Last year they moved it to the Gulf because of Hurricane debris in Ole River. I did an 11 minute 400. I actually like the Gulf swim better but haven't heard which body of water this year. Great post race party and typical Florabama debauchery.

I think Phoenix 10 is the name of the condo next to the bar. There are tons of condos available very near by. Let me know if you need help finding one. Look forward to seeing you there.

Thanks Ken..

forgot about that bridge.. ouch.

The website says the swim is in the old river again..

I actually have a cousin who's in-laws have a condo at the Nautilis not too far down the road. I'm hopeing that things will work out and we'll have a good group head down that way for the weekend. I've gotten three of our group considering doing a relay so it might be happening..

Thanks again, i'll let you know if i need any help..
