I completed my first tri last September. It was a short race for women only, but I completed it and met my goal for time. I started training for tri following a back injury in the fall of 2004. I was in rehab and my chiro is a triathlete. She encouraged me to give it a try (tri), and I fell in love with the sport.
It is the most exciting, challenging, and humbling activity I have ever undertaken. Especially at age 56! I love the cross training and the motivation and support provided by everyone on the BT blogger.
My back is healing well now, and it appears that this years goal of completing four sprint tris is within my grasp. And hopefully, my back will allow me to start running so I can at least run/walk the last leg instead of just walking.
I hope to hear from others training for their first, second or third tris, to share the excitement and love of this sport.

Welcome to BT! and congratulations on the completion of your first tri! Fantastic!

I have a history of back issues but mine occurred several years ago and have pretty much healed as well as they're going to. I find the crosstraining very beneficial to my back since I hardly ever have any problems with it now that I have acheived a higher level of fitness. The only thing that seems to bother my back is long periods of riding in the aeroposition but I think even that will become more comfortable with continued training.

Again, welcome to BT. This is a great community. I look forward to hearing about your progress.

Welcome!  Yeah, another Ohioan!  I lived in Columbus for 7 years, but now I am in northern Ohio.  Columbus is a wonderful place to live and train!
