Subject: What do you use to carry all your stuff - transition bag question
Hi all,
I'm a brand new BT-er with one season of 3 sprint and one Oly distance tri under my (still rather ample) belt. I haven't formally introduced myself yet, and will do it soon.

In the meantime, I'm wondering what transition bag you all like best? I have seen the TYR backpack with the expandable wetsuit pocket in the bottom, but haven't really taken the time at the different events to scope out the other options. I like the look of the Zoot backpack, but it's a fair bit more expensive and I can't find a picture of it open or with any gear in it.

So, what do you use to cart all this gear around? What are the great features that you either have or would like in a bag?

Thanks in advance!

I got a nice gym bag for Christmas with lots of perimeter pockets. It holds all my gear and is very comfortable to carry. That's good enough for me. I don't think you need to pay the inflated prices for a "triathlon specific" bag when there are plenty of gym bags out there that are more than adequate for probably 1/4 the price.

I have done two triathlon seasons using only my backpack because I bike to the event area.  I ready myself for the swim leg and leave my running gear and cycling gear in separate plastic bags.  The plastic bags are a two-fold precaution: to protect against possible rain and to keep everything together for easy access and retrieval.

Awww, c'mon! I haven't spent any really big $$ for awhile (wow, can this stuff ever add up) and now you're telling me I don't have to spend a lot for a transition bag? Oh, well, ok, I guess I can live with that! I tell my husband it's either this or purses and shoes -transition bags and bike shoes don't count in the continual bags/shoes wars at my house.

Thanks for the advice!

any old backpack or duffle will work. my first year i used an old diaper bag! since last season, i've been using the minneman tri duffel i won when i placed at that race last year. works great, but when i rode my bike to the triamerica race, the duffle wasn't big enough (i had borrowed a wetsuit). so, i used my old courier bag. that worked great, so i may end up using that next year, since i'm sure all my gear and my new wetsuit won't fit in the minneman duffle.

I have an old canvas tote (freebie from a conference) that held everything last year. Not so sure this year, but I don't have to worry about a wetsuit (yet).

I use an old waterproof duffel that I got from the Army/Navy surplus store a few years back for rafting. I am sure that I would be better served with something with multiple pockets, but I am saving up for a bike and the bag can wait.
