Ok, I have always felt that Chiropractors should be associated with Witch and VooDoo Dr.s. I have this ongoing tightness up the side of my neck and the muscles right between my shoulder blade and spine feel charlyhorsed or pulled constantly.

Anyone out there ever been to a Chiro? Does this pain sound familiar?

I think I am going to give it a try......

thanks a million

I swear by them.  I have a weak lower back that needs routinely cracked as when I was a kid, it froze while on the riding lawnmower-and all I did then was golf.  2 months ago I was walking in the hall and my neck seized-up for no reason.  I had about 30% mobility with very sharp pain.  I waited several days to see if it would get better, it didn't.  So I went to my chiropractor.  Within a week I had 80% mobility, I'm 100% now.  I did have several session once a week for 2 months.  He took X-rays too to make sure I had no spinal/skeletal problems.

I had some lower back nerve pain and went to the chiropractor and it didn't do anything for me.  A couple of massages worked it out though. However, everyone and every injury is different. It might be something to try instead of drugs.

I've had almost precisely what you described and was hesitant to see a chiropractor too.  Once I did though, I felt much better.  Just like w/ anything else, there are good Chiros and bad ones though.

My friend found a Chiro that also had a massage and physical therapist work in his office. The Chiro and massage therapist helped her current symptons while the PT gave her exercises to keep her in alignment. You could look for a combo office like that to offer several complimentary treatment options.

I am a chiropractor.  Like you, a lot of people who come into my office are afraid of chiropractors.  You should make sure that you talk to the chiropractor of your choice before treatment.  I believe any chiropractor would not be surprised to hear this and would be happy to address your specific concerns.  As with any doctor, if you do not feel comfortable or cannot communicate with the physician, then you should go elsewhere.  Some of the most common concerns I hear are:

1.  It is going to hurt/make me worse/paralyze me
2.  Once I start going to a chiropractor I will always have to go back
3.  A chiropractor isn't a real doctor
4.  It is expensive

If those are any of your concerns, or if you have any other concerns, please let me know and I will try to address them for you.  In any case, I wish you a speedy recovery from your health issue.

wow, thanks Dr.......Evil.....I like that name...do you know any Dr. VooDoo's? Just kidding.

I actually made an appoinment for monday. An old team mate of mine from way back went through school and is a Chiro....he has been in practice for over ten years.. A few of my friends go to him and have spoken well so I will give it a try.

I have always used a lot of Ice and stretching after training. Are there any does and don't after going to the Chiro?

Thanks for all the advice.

Timely thread...I'm trying my first chiropracter experience on Tuesday.  Two ortho's, four pt's, and massage therapy have failed to fix my knees...so, trying the Chiro!

Actually, it was a recommendation from the LMT...she said my hips were crooked which could be pulling the IT Band on the one side into the wonky tight state it's in.  She was not the first person to tell me my hips were crooked either.  So...why not?

I'll be sure to post the results on Tuesday night...

Coincidence that you also have ITB issues?  I think not....

I've been going to a chiropractor for the last year. I was VERY sceptical to begin with, as well.. but after seeing the overall improvement in my health, I am a convert. Lets just say that a year ago, I was on several medications for chronic pain and my quality of life was poor (I made it to work, but that was about it). Today, I'm on zero medications, my condition has been in remission for 7 months, and I'm now doing triathlons!

I'm not saying it's a cure-all, but for some, chiropractic is the answer. Hope it works for you!

Subject: Chiro report..

Okay, had the first Chiro appointment tonight.  Biggest 'diagnosis' was that my hips/pelvis rotate really well one way and almost not at all the other way.  That's not good.  So they worked on that and I am going back tomorrow for a little more.  Then I think they are gonna let me try it out for a few weeks and see what happens...

My back is a little bit sore (they cracked a few things in there too but I don't know why) but otherwise, I feel okay.  I really hope this works...I am SO sick of my knee hurting....

Big yes vote for chiropractors. I first used one after an ill advised snow boarding trip and have sworn by them ever since. I find they listen to your issues and explain what and why they are doing things and my results have been consistently good. I also find that you don't get the bums rush like I usually do at regular doctors. I have moved several times and each locale I have been able to find a good chiropractor.

I've had a lot of success with chiro over the years.  I've been treated for neck/mobility problems, hip/leg numbness, lower back pain and even sinusitis.  That's where I went most recently in December for ultrasound for a torn calf and I've logged about 30 run miles this month.

It's great that you've gotten personal references for this doctor. I'm sure you're going to feel a lot better.

Jen - My hips aren't crooked, but over time and working out the length of my legs becomes uneven.  Table stretching and an overall adjustment seems to be what's needed to regain alignment.

I have SI joint issues - the "crooked hip" thing.  2 years ago it was really bad and I also had trocanteric bursitis on the hip.   I had a cortisone shot in the bursitus and then hit an intense PT program that included some chiropractic manoevers.  The idea was to adjust me and then make me strengthen all the core muscles to hold it is place.  It was very successful.

It is back now - My fault for not keeping up my core strength
