I am planning my first sprint this summer and thought it would be wise to purchase some necessities in the off-season. From my limited exposure to triathlons, it seems that the tri-suit is ideal for the ladies... but what are my other options?

I found these online, any thoughts?

I decided to get separate pieces instead of a tri suit because I'm not the same size on the top and the bottom.   I ended up wearing tri shorts and the top of a two-piece Nike suit for the swim and then put on a bike jersey during T1.  Not amazingly easy, but it worked for the first one.  I'm going to get a tri top before my next one to make this easier.

I don't have any experience with DeSoto, but I have a pair of Sugoi tri shorts that I love.

I do the same thing, i purchased seperate tops and bottoms. I dont like the idea of a one piece, and then I can throw on a sleeveless tank for the bike/run section. Plus, being a little bigger up top it allows me to find a top that works for me, and not have to double up under the one piece. Some people really like the one piece though, so give it a try! worst case, you dont like it and you return it for soemthing else!

Are they still giving away free trisuits at team javelin? That's how I got mine.

I'm a 2 piece person... Last year I wore a Desoto top like this one and Desoto tri shorts. I've been happy with them. I raced early and late season though and knew I'd need more on top after the swim, so I'd rather just put a shirt/jersey on and go for the bike and run. Also, I knew I'd be comforatable in something that was more like a sports bra. This year, I'll race in summer and will likely get something more like this . I'll still wear the tri shorts and go for the 2 piece idea. I might hate it if it creeps up at all during the swim, but I think the bike and run would be ok (for me, that is....)

I don't like De Soto....for me, they aren't cut generously enough in the behind area. I bought the shorts, and they just didn't cover me, but the next size up felt too big everywhere else. But that's just me, and I'm quite bootylicious.

I also am a fan of two pieces, as I have a larger bottom than top. The only thing I don't like about two pieces is that the longer tops tend to ride up and bunch at my natural waistline, so I might as well buy a short top. But do I really want to expose my whole tummy? Just some thoughts.

I don't even have a tri top yet. Did 2 sprint races in Sugoi shorts and a quick-drying sports top I already had, one that provided enough support for running.

JamSuits are on sale right now - there is a link here from BT; they are a BT sponsor. They make a one-piece kind with a compression bra in it. Most of them, apparently, you still need to wear a sports bra under.

I am also a fan of wearing two pieces.  I have Zoot and Desoto tri shorts that I love, and a Sugoi tri top that is much like a sports bra (with small rear pockets!) that works well.  For my first sprint race I went with a two piece Nike swimsuit and pulled bike shorts and a jersey on over it.  It worked fine on top, but the shorts were too bulky for the run and with my suit under them, it created more chafing than necessary.  It comes down to personal preference; I have friends who race in one-piece trisuits and are very satisfied.

In my avatar you can see I went with a TYR tankini and Pearl Izumi tri shorts and that worked out great.  I don't like the idea of a tri suit just because of the bathroom logistics.  That's just me, though!  This year it'll be a tri top and Desoto shorts.
