Well it didn't take long into the new year for me to do something really foolish. Ignoring the bitter cold temps and wicked winds on Sunday, I decided to head out for my 9 mile run. While I think I was dressed OK to handle the outside temp, I definitely was not prepared for that damn wind! Fortunately, my wife came to rescue my at mile 5. Playing on that TV commercial about daddy buying a new motorcycle, running out of gas, and being rescued by his family, my wife's comment to me as she pulled up alongside me was "Daddy just had to go out and buy a heart rate monitor"!

Hey, you MUST be able to dig up something equally embarrassing that she's done in the past, you know, to kind of offset the whole deal? Of course, seeing how she probably cooks the meals, does the laundry, and an assortment of other unpleasant tasks, perhaps it's just as well that you meekly take your medicine and say "Yes dear, you're right!"

Max - you're right on with the 2nd half of your comment... one good thing is that next weekend, I'll do my long run in Orlando!

Unless your wife is going to be there too, I wouldn't brag about this around her. And I've learned one thing about running in the winter around here: There's no such thing as too many layers for the boys.

A couple of years ago I went through this spell where I got a flat on EVERY ride. That's not an exaggeration either...every ride ended in a flat somewhere. After a couple of weeks my wife wouldn't even bother planning anything while I was out, she just sat by the phone, waited for my call, then drove out to pick me up. "Daddy just had to do triathlons..."

Have I mentioned before how much I love my wife?

I made my bonehead move yesterday. Ready to do an 8 mile run I realize I'm all out of Bodyglide . I'll be fine, I thought to myself. All is well up until mile 6 when serious chaffage starts going on. Painful bleeding nips for the last 2 miles. The worst part was the sting in the shower! I have learned my lesson.
