Subject: rock salt, ice melt and running shoes?
We are in the midst of the strangest winter I can remember here on Long Island. One day it's 60 degrees (and I am running outside) and two days later it's 25 degrees and snowing (and they are covering the streets with rock salt).

What I am wondering is if there is any potential damage that can be done to running shoes that are exposed to ice melters and/or rock salt?

Thanks

They should be OK.

Rock-salt slush on the outside, sweat on the inside...both contain salt. If you run much, you'll be retiring some pretty new-looking shoes well before salt has a chance to do any real damage. I'd put other ice-melters (usually calcium salts) in the same category.

If you get a pretty heavy contamination, you can wash them to get rid of the residual salt crystals.
