OK, I can't take it anymore! The in-laws are driving me crazy - let me rephrase - the mother in law in driving me crazy. I am seriously going to lose it!

I could go into specifics, but it would take too long.

Do the rest of you like your in-laws? And if you don't, how do you deal?

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH! (picture me screaming). I'll never make it until Saturday.

didn't they just get there?? I am SOOOO sorry! My inlaws?? I have the BEST MIL ever! She is truly a gem and I wish she wasn't 2000 miles away. My FIL, on the other hand.....well, I won't even go there. But they're long divorced so he's barely in the picture anyhow. All of my SILs are great too, on both sides. I am truly lucky in the inlaw department

I am so sorry for you; I can relate. My mother in law from my first marriage was such an old cow! Sort of reminded me of Marie on "Everybody Loves Raymond". Now, with my second wife, the in-laws had the good sense to shake their mortal coils before I came intot the picture. Now the brothers-in-law are another matter altogether....

They arrived on Saturday. My FIL is the best, my MIL thinks out loud (constantly), has an opinion about everything that I do (which is expressed out loud), and has been calling me mommy (why? probably because my almost 2 y/o daughter does?). The "mommy" thing is making me want to go off the deep end.

Ellen - you are lucky! Michel- glad to hear someone else is/was in the same boat! And the MIL on Raymond is too much! If she were real, OMG......

When I get home from work, I need to take a few deep breaths, tell myself it will all be ok, and then have about 6 beers. ;-)

I think the age thing is part of why I get along with my MIL so well. She had Mike when she was barely 17, so she is only 15 years older than me. Tomorrow is her birthday as a matter of fact.....a Cinco de Mayo mother-in-law

I am a lucky dog, as my in-laws are from the Maritimes and are wonderful human beings.  I adore all of my husband's family, and it is huge!!! I will have to invite you all to the next family reunion in Prince Edward Island.  There are usually 170 people or so there, so you all could pretend to be a relative...who would know???

My inlaws are OK. It does help that they are 3,000 miles away though!

They came to stay for 3 weeks last year – lovely people but DO something will you – and make a f***ing decision occasional.

And slow?? Tell them we are going out at 10am and they start getting ready at 9.59 – I have 3 kids to manage - like I need that as well?

They drive me nuts.

This will be the second reference in this thread to "Everybody Loves Raymond". There are some episodes of that show that I have to turn off because Marie is just too much like art immitating life. Suffice it to say my wife is glad my parents are 600 miles away and I'm glad her mother is 40 miles away. If either were across the street, like the tv show, the possibility exists I'd be doing my tri training from inside prison walls.

My in-laws from my first marriage were very nice people, but I couldn't tolerate them for more than a couple days. They are born again Christians, which is *totally* fine, but they took to heart the evangelist role in their lives. Every moment of every day is an opportunity for sermon. I am a church-going, Sunday school teaching, Christian woman (although not evangelical, and certainly more liberal than they are), and I just felt like muzzling them sometimes! I understand they put Christ first in their lives, but could we talk about something else for five minutes??? Please???? Ugh.

And my former MIL was also the very worst housekeeper I have ever seen, no joke. I am nowhere near a neat freak, but let's just say I never slept at their house in the 8 years I was married to her son; we always stayed with my parents instead. When I was first dating my ex, I said something about having to hang the bedsheets on the line or something, and he said "You're supposed to wash bedsheets?" Uh, yeah, occasionally.

My fiance's father passed away last year, unfortunately. His mother is a gem, which is really nice. As someone else said though, the future BIL is another story all together...

Kelly

I get pretty steamed when I watch "Raymond"; why can't these morons just lock their doors?!? Amazing! Or better yet, just tell the obnoxious in-laws to "GET THE HECK OUT!" The only reason I watch the show is because I find Patricia Heaton excruciatingly beautiful ....sigh!

ok, what kind of freak of nature am I? I have never seen Raymond, have never seen Friends, never seen <insert any TV show name here> What I have seen however, is the Sox drop 5 in a row and I am getting pretty fed up. Don't make me get off this bandwagon!

This thread cracks me up. I was having a conversation with friends not long ago and we were talking about prerequisites for a "partner" or spouse. High on the list of preferences was "no family".!!

Ellen -- I think the Sox are doing better than the Mariners!

I guess that I got lucky on that pre-requisite; the only in-laws I have are one brother-in-law who lives in Toronto and another who lives in Trieste, Italy! And my wife is lucky because her in-laws are great!

My in laws are about an hour away. My mother in law is nice, I get along with her great except I will never take another vacation with her. My father in law is really cool except that he is a Bills and Blue Jays fan and I am a Dolphins and Yankees fan. We go camping with him and his girlfreind a lot.

Agnes is okay with my "thing" with Patricia Heaton; as long as it is only a demented old fool's fancy...what harm is there? I would say that the likely of me and Patricia "getting it on" is between "0" and "NEVER!"

Alas ( or perhaps thank goodness from some of the posts ) I have no In-Laws.

I do have some co-workers who feel it is their duty to push me off my diet ( not so much diet, as just watching what I eat, aka NO MCDONALDS ) and encourage me to skip workouts.

Fortunately, I'm winning and they are beginning to give up on trying to tempt me.

They're free to live their lives as they want, and I choose to live mine by Tri'ing.

Wow and to think that I wanted to get marry in the next couple of years. Geeshhhh! Not any more! The only reason is that I fear my poor hubby will have to deal with my mother. I love her but I pity the fool that marries her daughter!

Ovetta - that is good to know in advance!

One more day for the in-law visit! I'm on the countdown! Latest quip from the MIL - we're in the garage - she says, "everything in here is garbage" OMG, my bike is in there! Garbage?

Wow, how could you let such a golden opportunity slip by like that. When your MIL said "everything in here is garbage!", you should have looked her in the eye and said: "Yes! everything!"
