Took my first spinning class this morning - intermediate level - it kicked my butt - wish I had started the classes 2 months ago!

Spinning is great for bike fitness. Spinning does not make you a good biker. But, a good biker will stay good - get better in winter by spinning.

but...wait...millarq's in St. Thomas...get out and ride man! I've been cooped up indoors since late October.

just kidding millarq, one session per week will really help you.

Spin classes are fun!!
Remember that you really do control your own pace, and resistance.
You don't have to try to keep up with the instructor on the first class.

Some of the instructors at my local Y teach 4 or 5 spin classes a week.
Each class is 1 hr long, and they are still likely to show up to take classes they are not teaching in the winter months. They can "kick everyone's ass" during a spin class almost any time they like.

Like any addition to training, ease into it, and have fun!

Thanks guys, I wanted to shake things up a bit with the class, strangely I feel that its actually given me a little boost motivationally. I've been riding the roads 4-5 mornings a week (a 15 mile loop) for the last few months so the change was nice.

On the basis of this morning, I think I'll substitute a couple of early morning rides each week for a couple of 8am classes (two hours more sleep :-)

Glen.

i've been taking classes every day this week..my school even has a triathlon prep spin class once a wk, i went last night which was completely intimidating and intense but i liked it! the tri prep class starts with 45min and adds 5min every week, with the last week biking 2hrs. i don't even have a bike yet so spinning is the best i can do for now!
