I am coming out of Lurker mode to introduce myself, finally. I started training for my first tri on March 22nd and I am loving it! My first tri is the Danskin series in Seattle on August 15th, but I am getting soo excited that I will likely do the Issaquah Triathlon on June 6 (www.issaquahtri.com). The swim is half the distance of the Danskin so it would be a good intro. My family has been very supportive. My twelve year old son has appointed himself "personal trainer". I am using the the twenty week sprint training plan from BT. He checks the schedule every morning and advises me what to do for the day, then checks in with me at night. It's great! The training log has been very helpful. Some days I think that I am not doing as well as I hoped, the training logs help me see the slow and steady progress. I appreciate the great advice and inspiration from the Forum discussions.

Welcome! :-)

Sounds like your son is a wonderful helper! Isn't it great to have someone making sure that you are training?

Welcome Michelle!

Sounds like you're doing great. I think most of us can relate to the feeling of beginning the training and feeling like your race is sooooo far away!! (o:

You'll love the atmosphere of the Danskin, though!

Keep us posted. BTW, what kind of base are you starting from? Complete and utter couch potato, sometime exerciser, long-time runner... or cyclist... or swimmer??

Dana,

I was a mostly moderate level of activity, mostly running and xc skiing. We live near a lake so I swim regularly, just for fun, not for distance so that will be new to have a "purpose". I am training in a pool now and hoping for a stretch of warm days to begin open water swimming. I am going to use my mtn bike, until I have one under the belt...make myself earn a road bike.

Hello and welcome! How great that your son is so involved with your training! I should get my 12 year old daughter into it like that! My first race is also June 6, so it's getting close! Good luck!

Kelly,

That would be great to involve your daughter! It even helps your nutrition (and theirs). When we grocery shop, the boys are helping to stock up on fruits for snacks instead of junk (well at least two of them are). My youngest is a candy monster!

Welcome Michele- nice to meet another westcoaster!!!! My 4 yearold daughter is involved in my training as well-- she wants to know which event I'll be training for each day, and I think she knows more about proper nutrition that most adults -lol!!! She now asks -is it a carb?, protein?, what vitamins does it have? Thankgoodness she likes sports!!! Your tri goal sounds great- I'd love to come down and do a tri in WA state- maybe next year. Anyway- good luck with your training and have FUN FUN FUN.
