trifocus - 2006-09-26 6:04 PM I'm new. I'm down here between Rolla and Lebanon in a little town called Richland Missouri. I work at Ft. Leonard Wood and try to train as much as I possibly can. I really wish there was someone near that I could train with however. -Jarrett

Welcome trifocus!  I agree that it helps and is fun to train with someone else, but if that's not possible at least with BT you can have virtual training partners.

I live just outside of Springfield and have and also have an office in Osage Beach, so I'm in your neighborhood fairly often.  I went to the LBS in Lake Ozark a few weeks ago, good guys, and they gave me some good bike routes that are within an hour or so of Richland.

I think we should start a challenge, say maybe Jan 1st Jan 2nd, with the folks on this thread and anyone else that may stumble in.  What do you say getsome, slovegreen, soozey?  Who did I miss?  Speak up.

Sure, what kind of challenge? Jan 2 sounds safely far away to commit to a challenge!

I don't know.  I was hoping to get some ideas from everyone since I don't know what you're planning for next year.  My first thoughts were related to my plans for next year:   5K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon, Duathlon, Sprint, and HIM with maybe a few others if I have time and no injuries.  I saw a thread on the Challenge forum awhile back that was something like total minutes for swim-bike-run.

Ooh a challenge. I need one. I'm taking the off season very seriously.

But really, if we wanted to do something earlier, that'd be cool too (tho I'm game for New years too!). Once this weekend hits, I'm looking to get some structure back into my workouts (I'm not calling it training right now). For me, I can't seem to drag my hiney to the weight room so I'd be up for a strength challege of some kind. Could be as easy as goal # of sessions per week or something. What I know is that this is something I always struggle with. We should probably wait some tho for the rest of you that are ending their season this weekend so you can have some down time.

Challenges are fun. So, keep me posted.

*********

What about everyone turning in their goals in minutes, sessions, whatever and then we hold each other accountable.

My season is ending, Rec Plex this weekend then Springfield Urban Adventure race next weekend, but then I have my daughter's b-day, Halloween party, Trick-or-treating, Thanksgiving, Christmas parties, Christmas and New Year's eve.

Great idea!  I am up for starting a challenge or support group... whatever you want to call it. I'd join in earlier than January for sure.  I just have to get nagging injuries out of the way first, then I'm ready to get back in shape.  I really think I lost a lot of fitness by the way I approached the season (race...recover...race....recover)  Kinda forgot the training part! hehehe.

I think I could be persuaded to add weight training to my regimen 1 or 2 times per week.  Just full-body stuff. Chin-ups, pull-ups, dips, squats and deadlifts would be plenty for me.  No need for isolation lifts until I start looking like Arnold.

oh, I went up to that bike shop in Osage Beach a few weeks ago as well and got the info on some local trails. Mostly, I ride circles around my neighboorhood every night.

Maybe like a mileage challenge? Or a time challenge. Anything is good for me. I'm intent on completing a half mary by the end of next season and get comfortable with Oly's. My weakest event is the bike.

Hey Guys and Gals

I am Josh, 26, and I live in Columbia. I am just getting started into tris. I have been mountain biking for alittle over a year, and I decided this summer to start training for a tri. Since I hadnt run in a while, I am doing the couch to 5k workout. I am running my first 5k tomorrow in Jeff City, and I am going to do another in December (ooh cold). I am join a gym this month that has pool and I hope to be in shape to do a few sprints and maybe an Oly next year. I am really pumped up about this sport. I played football (Lineman) and threw discus in High school but havent done alot of distance training in my life. I find it really fun and relaxing, though painful and exhausting at times. I plan on doing the JCC indoor tri in Chesterfield in Feb. and doing the Merrill Lynch Race for Sight here in columbia. I would also like to do a few duathlons next summer. Well I will see some of you guys around. BTW are there any more Columbians around here?

Welcom Josh.  You've found a great site.  Get your logs going and have fun.

By the way everyone else, I haven't forgotten about the challenge.  I'm taking Oct off from running and at least a couple of weeks off from the bike to hopefully relieve the ITBS.

Happy Friday!

This is totally non triathlon related, but since this is the Missouri forum I have to spread the joy of October in St. Louis by saying:

I know this thread is probably old and dead, but I'm from Missouri, so I had to revive it.

I'm Robert, and I'm from Independence (KC area). I've been running all year (since April) and I've completed my first 1/2 marathon in October. I've done a tri, yet, but I'm taking my "new" road bike out for a spin today probably a 6 miler). I found it at a thrift store for $5.00, but it looks brand new! It's a basic road bike, but it feels super light compared to my mtn. bike. For what it's worth, it's a "USA" brand bike. I did have to replace the tires, but I think everything else works fine. Today will be my first ride on it, so hopefully all the gears work.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting my triathlon training, though most of it will be inside as I hate the cold!

Later!

Hey Robert.  Hope you had a good ride.  I rode today as well, the weather was great here in Springfield.

Don't be a stranger.

Joe - thanks for reminding me to log my ride.

It wasn't a great ride as I felt like I was climbing hills the entire time! I had hoped for a 6 miler, but only got maybe 3. I couldn't get the resitance low enough to do any good - I'm able to cycle better on my mountain bike! LOL! I dropped by a good bike shop and they showed me some entry level, carbon fiber frame road bikes, so I'm going to save some money and pick one up.

Hello and welcome.

Well, I race "unaffiliated."  I have a hard time coordinating my schedule to take advantage of tri club events, etc.  But it sure is nice to have training partners out there who share your same goals.

Speak of... what races do you have in mind for the upcoming season? Between those of us on here from STL, I'll bet we've been there and done that!

See ya,

B

I had a great time at every race.  And I wrote up lots of details about each one, too. But most notably, I really enjoyed Wood River because of all the action on the course the whole time, and I thought that Lake Saint Louis was awesome. It was such a big production compared to the other races!

You can get a pretty good feel for the set-ups and nitty gritty details from my RR's and the pics in them.  Also, www.swimbikerunstlouis.com has a photo gallery for a lot of the local races.

what do you have planned for this year?
