Hey Sarah!

I posted a note on your logs......glad to see you here!  It's awesome to have so many Missouri folks on the board; but even better to see someone a little closer to the SW part of the state

Just checking out the Bass Pro fitness week events!!  Thinking maybe the 5K, 70 mile ride or the family fun ride w/ our 4 year old. Hmmmmmm..........

See you around!

Since I'm in MO . . . I figure that I'm automatically in the MO thread! Yeah! I hope that's how it works. Hahaha.

ANYWAY. I am BRAND NEW to triathlons. I have always wanted to do one . . . or be in some kind of race . . . but I've never "had time" or the will to do one. But, this year, I am teaching a class about goal-setting and soft skills at a local high school and none of my students seem to understand the necessity of setting goals and preparing for their futures. Therefore, hopefully, I am going to be a role model to them. Anyway, I am competing in a triathlon in April (plenty of time).

Well, just thought I'd introduce myself. I need all the help I can get. I have no idea what's going on. Thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm John.  I'm 29, married and just had my 4th kid in June.  I grew up in Lee's Summit, a suburb of Kansas City.  I'm currently serving in Iraq and live in Germany.  I recently decided to start training for tri.  I hoping to compete in one next spring or summer 2009 in Germany.  I should finally be coming back to Kansas City for a couple weeks next summer for the first time in over 3 years, and am looking forward to possibly doing a tri while there.  Good luck to everyone in their training and all they do.

People were meant to walk forward, so why not have a forward outlook in life.  When people move backward and look to the past, they people tend to stumble fall and go no where.

Hi John!  Welcome to BT & the Missouri group.  Nice to see someone from the Western side of the state (even though you're still a few hours north).   Training in Iraq?  Could you entertain me with a description of how you make that possible?  Is it mostly gym training? I am impressed that not only are you serving our country (thank you!) but that you add triathlon to it!!! Kudos.

See you around!

Yes, I just recently decided to start training for a triathlon.  It's difficult, almost all of my training is done in a gym on a treadmill and a stationary bike.  I do run outside on the base in the morning before the sun comes up and it gets to hot.  I am currently training on a duathlon plan, but have added arm and shoulder exercises and weights to prepare for when I can get back to Germany and into a pool or lake.  I appreciate the support from everyone.  Good luck and maybe I'll eventually run into some of you.

Hi all. I am Ben from Northeast MO. I am 33, married and a new daddy to my beautiful baby girl. I too am new to the whole Tri-scene. I am planning to compete in my 1st tri on June 13th 2009. I just finished Phase 1 of my training today and am getting ready to start Phase 2. I have definately been bitten by the bug. My wife just wants to know why everything I get into has to be so expensive. Well I just wanted to tell my fellow Missourians hello.  God Bless,  Ben

Hi everyone! I'm Ryan.  I live it St. Louis and I've done 1 sprint triathlon and 1 olympic distance.  My wife and I have a baby boy on the way, due in March.  I hope to register and participate in the Lake St. Louis Tri in late summer this year.  Since its our first child I'm not exactly sure what to expect here.  I turned to the triathlon after knee surgery and absolutely love it.  Its a great way to crosstrain, it keeps training exciting dealing with three sports and I can attest it helps reduce the risk of injury.

Welcome, Ryan. And congrats on the future newborn.  You'll be in for a wild ride and some sleepless nights!  But it can be done.  I did my first Half Iron soon after my daughter was born.

Lake St.Louis is a great tri. It ranks right up there with the Innsbrook events, in my opinion.  Be sure to sign up right away because it'll fill up faster than a leaky goggle.

Let me know if you have any questions about local tris.

Take care,

B

Hey there!  I've been around for a little while but never introduced myself so thought I should do that.  I'm Janet, married, 2 teenagers, and this will be my first season doing tri's.  I originally had planned to start with Alligator's Creek in August (I've volunteered for that one 2 of the last 3 years and it's local for me so thought it would be a good one to start with), but have decided that I don't really want to wait that long to do my first.  So I think I'm going to do the TriZou on May 3rd in Columbia - just need to get myself registered.  I think I'm a little afraid to make it official.  I know I can do the run (been a runner for a little over 2 years) and the swim (it'll be slow but I can do itSmile), it's the bike that worries me.  I've been training on a stationary bike at the gym and will be riding an old mountain bike during the race.  I know it's not the best option, but I just can't afford a road bike right now and don't know anyone who has one I could borrow.  I know I need to get the registration in soon, so I'll just have to do it and make the best of it.

Hi Janet!  Swimming was my biggest fear when I did my first triathlon.  As long as the bike leg isn't real long, you'll be fine even on an old mountain bike Smile.   Where is Alligator's Creek?

Ryan

It's in O'Fallon.  The bike leg is 18 miles but the thing that worries me about it is that everyone I've talked to during the times I volunteered there said it was a pretty hilly course.  I'm pretty sure I can finish it, it just may take longer than I want.  Then again, I do still have 6 months to work on it so by then it might not even be an issue.

The bike leg for the one in May is only 14 miles but I'm not sure what the course is like.  The website does say to do some hill training though - I'm just hoping it won't be too bad.
