Well this week marked two firsts for me, my first 1000m continuous swim earlier in the week and today my first 5k distance run continuously. Granted, neither are very fast, but they are getting done and I am pretty happy with the progress I have made in the two months I have started. I just wanted to say "thank you" to all of you on the boards, this place can be pretty motivational .

Wow! It really feels awsome, doesn't it?

6 months ago, I was lifting weights regularly, but hadn't done a whole lot of cadio work. I started adding cardio, and then shifted my focus to training for Tri, and I'm suddenly feeling like it is all clicking for me too!

It's definitely a great feeling when you hit. All the miles running, biking and swimming finally feel like they are paying off.

If you could figure out how to capture this feeling and put it in a bottle, you'd be the richest person in the world.

Enjoy the feeling, you've definitely earned it!

Terrific! Amazing!! Revel in it... if you're friends don't get it, come back here! We do!!

Believe me, those 217 lbs. will be less and less of a factor,

a) because you are getting stronger every week

b) those pounds will be smoked away!! (slower than melting, but much more lasting!!)

As to speed (both for swimming and runnin... well biking too,... but you didn't mention bikinig) begin introducing very short intervals of speed, where you increase your heart rate considerably. When I first started, I was always concerned that I'd no longer have energy for the rest of my workout, so I would do it for the last 10 minutes. Run as hard as I could for 1 to 2 minutes, then ease back for 3-4, repeat. Similarly for swimming, I'd spend the last 10 minutes or so doing the EBEH rhythym. Which are 100 intervals, where the first 25 is easy, then the second you build, then the third is easy again. The last is flat out as hard as you can go. Then rest for 30 to 60 seconds... whatever you need. Repeat.

A very slow swimmer and runner, but getting better!
