I LOVE SWIMMING!!! (and I'm not even swimming properly yet)
I was a confirmed swim hater. Then on Friday I had my first TI lesson. Oh Boy. What a revelation. I swam a length of the pool for my swim pro and haven't swam a stroke since. Drills drills drills! Sweet spot, active Balance, etc etc. It was so relaxing, so enjoyable. I was in the pool for 90 minutes on Sunday and 50 minutes this morning. I was even waiting for the doors to open at the health club - both times. I'm so excited at the thought of what this will do for me. I'd better stop beofre I start hyperventilating.
To EVERYONE who says "I'll never be a good swimmer" Swallow your pride, save your pennies get a couple of TI swim lessons. Buy the TI book. It might not change your life but it as sure as heck WILL change your triathlon.

Ian (the evangelicial swimmer)

Ahh, a reformed swim hater. The water rocks! Soon you'll be doing laundry, get a whiff of bleach and start daydreaming about swimming. It's a beautiful thing. Now if there was only a TI for biking, I'd be set.

For those who debate the usefulness of TI, this is a reminder that it makes it a lot easier to get better at something if it's something you love doing it, and of TI has accomplished that for you, then congratulations.

I've never done TI, but the Jan. Swim Challenge really worked its magic on me and I'm digging the pool again.

Hey wow, that's GREAT! I've been listening to the swim coach at the end of the pool and keep thinkin' I've got to bite the bullet and pay him instead of just eavesdropping. :-)

that's great news, especially considering my TI book should arrive in the mail today. and since I twisted my ankle yesterday... it looks like I'll be spending more time in the pool for sure.

Hey Ian,

Awesome to hear that you're having success with TI.  Who're you working with?  Dave Cameron, per chance?  I think he's one of the only TI people here in MN.  Anyhow, I have my first lesson with him on Thursday.  I'm so looking forward to being more efficient and faster in the water.

No. My pro is Amy Croonquist (sp) out at White Bear Lake. Wether she is an official TI person or not I don't know. But she swims that way and all the drills are TI drills. So that'll do for me
Good luck with your lessons. You'll love it I'm sure. I've never felt so relaxed in the water.
By the way thats a good looking pint you've got there in your avatar.

Ian,

Stick with it! I just had a TI weekend in Raleigh NC and wish I had done it last year. The book and DVD are great but the instructors do such a great job of tying it all together. You will swim better but you UNDERSTAND as well. There are lots of thing to get right before you swim. Another good thing about the weekend is you get to see yourself and others and realize everyone has their own areas to improve on.

*Side item*
Matchman, Dave Cameron was one of my instructors and I do not have the space or time to tell you how much I think of that man. Dave spotted some things early on with my technique and never let me slack off during the weekend. If you can get his coaching I would wait OUTSIDE in a MN winter to make sure I could get Dave.

Count me as an ex-high ranking member of the swim haters club ... and as someone drinking the Total Immersion Kool-Aid.  It has 100%, positively turned my swim stroke around.  Whereas I used to fight with the water, I now glide through it - still rather gracelessly, but I am not sinking.

TI is definitely worth it.

Ian,

That pint was one of many consumed at "The Queen's Head" pub in London.  It tasted even better than it looks.  Can you tell I was having fun?

Fred,

Thanks for the words on Dave Cameron.  First lesson with him is on Thursday and I'm really looking forward to it.  I doubt I'll ever be considered a really good swimmer but that's OK.  I just want to be faster and more efficient.

Tom

I'm now in the pool every other day averaging an hour each visit. I'm there when the doors open at 5:30. Relentlessly kicking up and down the pool, patiently doing the first 3 lessons of TI drills from the book. One smart alec has christened me "Navy Seal Guy" as he only sees me in the pool with fins on hardy har har. He claims he was a swim coach once. Hmm from what I see he certaily didn't teach TI.

I am with you Ian about TI.  I have always enjoyed swimming.  I went to the workshop last fall, and now I just love swimming.  It's great to feel the glide and the efficiency.

Here's to more great days in the water!

I'm just starting TI like you, lincsguy. it feels good, and right, to be just gliding up and down the pool slowly while the other dozen people around me in the other lanes are thrashing and fighting the water with every single stroke.
good luck to you in this endeavor!!
