Until you can make a "windmill" without any discomfort....then start again slowly. Don't jack your yardage way up to wear it was before you were hurt. Make sure you warm up your shoulders before beginning any swim.

When I start to approach 4400 yards, the next 48 hours usually involves some shoulder pain. I pop three advils in the morning and wait for the inflamation to go away. It can take awhile.

Shoulder injuries can be scary....I always think I need surgery. lol.

I am prone to shoulders injuries because I had surgery on my left one. Take time to heal. The last serious injury I had took almost six months to heal and didn' t stop hurting until the week of my first triathlon that year. I had kept swimming but a very limited schedule.
