Subject: Excited beginner
Hello to all! After a year of putting off this desire, I have decided to enter the world of triathletes. I have been a bodybuilder for the last 6 years and have gotten to the breaking point and have become tired with the extreme dieting, not to mention the muscle mass on my 5'1" frame. I have always enjoyed the runner's high that I get when running, but haven't been able to include running in my workout regimen due to the muscle loss that it can cause. And I have been envious of the positive effects that cycling has had on my husband for the last year, mentally and physically.
Living in Monterey, California, with it's beautifully scenery and wonderful weather, has awakened me to this sport. I'm nervous and excited to change gears in terms of goals, but I know I'm ready. My husband chuckled at first when he heard that I wanted to do this. But I'm glad he did that because it makes me more determined. Please excuse me if you see my name on every forum with a thousand questions...I just want to do this right. My goal is to do my first tri before we leave Monterey, which is next summer and my training starts today! Wish me luck, as I wish everyone else! Thanks for the wonderful website.

I'm totally with you, Debbie! I'm also 5'1" (the 1" is my target height!)! Not much of a runner, though. My hubby chuckled a little too - but got me going more, too!

GOOD LUCK to you too! We'll all be pulling for each other!

good luck on your new journey...if u develope your program right and still lift a few time a week with some heavy sessions (although not necessarily good for being competitive), u will lose some mass BUT tri training cuts u up that much more - better then a diet of tuna and bread ....u will still have most of the definition that big mass and strict diets that bodybuilding gives u.

my 2cents...

All right, Debbie!

Glad you joined us. I've done a couple training runs down in the Carmel area--what a great venue!! Let me know what race you will be doing--I find myself at a lot of them, and I can cheer you on!!

Train, train hard!! And then rub your hubbie's nose (just a little, little bit!!) in your success!! :-)

Thank you all for your very warm welcome. I'm starting slowly and training smartly. I live for challenges! Well, I'm off for my first day back in the pool. Hopefully my legs will hold up; yesterday was my first day running and I awoke with some soreness in the legs. Gotta love that feeling!

Debi: Welcome to the great lifestyle of the triathlete! Looking forward to sharing ideas and info. Remember to build your aerobic base slowly and for quite a few months before any accelerated training. That was my BIG mistake last year. I felt so good about training I pushed too hard and lost a lot of months from injury and then had to start all over again! Phewey! Scott
