Another pool swim Tri question

Usually it's a 'jump in the pool start'. Racers are lined up on deck in 'estimated speed' order along the edge of first lane. Every ten seconds or so, another person walks across the timing mat and then jumps into the pool. No diving allowed, usually!

Its personal preference whether you choose to drop in close to the wall and push off or jump farther out and maybe push off from the bottom. Or, like one of my friends, try to drop in gently - it was actually a foot and a half drop to the water - but have your hand slip on the side of the pool and flop into the water. At least she came up laughing.

^^^ exactly why diving would be a BAD idea. You think you get squashed in a running start, just wait till you have a wave of elite men diving on top of the nov. women.
