Subject: Tendon Question
Ok, about 2 weeks ago, I did a 17 mile run in training, and ever since then, my tendon has been driving me nuts.

I have only run 4 times and each time it has hurt. Swimming is fine. Lifting is fine as long as I'm wise.

It hurts throughout the day. I can feel it right now.

Does it matter?

I mean, can I still run and just let it hurt?

Usually it hurts the first couple of miles or so and then it numbs until I have to stop to cross the street again. Then that brief pause of standing still makes it worse and I have to fight to keep from limping until I get going solidly again.

I love your little sumo guy. :-)

It's a groin area one. I thought it was actually the groin muscle, but it's deeper than that.

How do I know for sure whether it's the muscle or the tendon?

Really hard to say over the internet.  Either way, you wouldn't be wrong in taking it a little easier until it heals up.  You'll thank yourself in the long run for it.

Hmmm....I pulled something in the 'groin' area last July - ran through it - and ended up with a pretty intense injury - which made it impossible for me to run and I had to do a relay for my tri in Sept - Took about 3 months to completely heal (no running during that time) - so I wouldn't push it.  I ended up going to the doctor, chiro, and massage therapist for treatment.  Mine involved the illiopsoas muscle (not sure of the correct spelling)

I say - see a sport medicine doc - and do not run through it unless you are prepared to stay off of your feet.

I had a groin injury last winter and it took me several months to heel. I did a lot of research at the time and there are actually several different parts in that area that maybe injuried and would still be classified as a groin injury. In addition, I guess it is one of the more difficult injuries to diagnose. I never went to a docter but I took time off with no running at all. I doubt that you will be able to run through it. I would take a couple of days off and try again, if it still hurts then you are probably going to need to shelve the shoes for a bit.

I really do not want to stop running. It's like an itch I can't scratch when I'm not out there.

But as with everything, there's usually something else I can spend time learning when this sort of thing happens. I can always use more time in the pool ~ my face doesn't enjoy it so much, lovely rash there. ;-)

And I can continue to lift.

I'm going to have to cull about 800 calories a day too. Man, am I going to be hungry! LOL But nothing, absolutely nothing, I don't care if I swim for 2 hours, nothing burns calories like running ~ at least not for me. I have gotten spoiled...

Ok. Well, I'll continue to read any further posts, of course, but I think I've heard what was needed.

Thanks.
