Wow, breaking 8 hours in FL (Page 2)

Well, the good thing about NW is that you don't fight the wind the last 7 miles into transition. Which can be a really big deal! Yes, NE winds all day meant the wind didn't shift. I think people thought it did because 79 south didn't feel like as MUCH of a tail because the winds were MORE easterly than northerly. So, 79 N and 20 east were headwinds, 77 south was a brief respite, 388 was a headwind all the way to the out and back, then a tail back to Blue Mountain, then short time with a head, tail all the way down 20 and 79, some headwind on the back portion of the last out and back, then small tail on 79 and massive headwind the last 7 miles into transition. Yes, that headwind was totally cruel those last 7 miles. |

My 3rd split was similar pace to my second and my power was actually a tad lower for last split than second. From looking at splits mine seems different than most as far as 1st, 2nd and 3rd on bike but I had a very slow swim. 2011
Jen, I do think your description of wind was what I experienced on race day and far different than last year's bike. Last year's bike splits...my average watts were 4 watts higher than last year with same power meter, frame, wheels but different lower Crr tires this year. My position is more aero on bike this year I believe.

Yes, last year we had a north WEST erly wind which makes it absolutely night and day different than a north EAST erly wind. Especially on this course that is a lot more East/West than North/South really. Did you see my link to the hourly weather conditions on 5 Nov? You can see the exact wind speeds all day long.... |

That does appear to be a lot different from last year. Here were mine:
It looks like there was a tail wind this year through the sections with the rolling hills, where last year, with it coming from the NW, it was felt more on the last 20 miles or so back to T2. I don't really remember having a head wind at any point during the ride, except on the last out-and-back. |
