I just wanted to share with you all that I feel like I could swim around the world right now!! After getting up at 5AM to workout which is something I NEVER do (but I think I will more often - I loved it!), this afternoon I was getting so tired. I am a stay-at-home-mom and my two kids' naps were already done (one didn't sleep at all) and all I felt like doing was sleeping on the couch (impossible). So instead of grumping along, I decided to take the kids to the gym (daycare there) and do some swimming.

My goal was to swim 600 meters (I did 500M last Sunday - but was fairly breathless after it) without stopping, doing any stroke necessary (I use the breaststroke as a 'catch my breath' stroke).

I ended up swimming 1000 meters all freestyle!!! It's like I got into a grove, my breaths were right on and I wasn't very tired during it. I think I was in what they call "The Zone!" It was so exciting. I honestly think I could've done more but I was watching the clock because of the kids in the daycare area!

I am so pumped about it. The idea of the tri sprint swim coming up for me doesn't scare me so much.

Anyway - just had to share! Thanks for listening! Sue Ellen

I can't wait until I can do something approaching what you did today. If you're ever in the Atlanta area, please swing by and give me some tips! ;-)

That's awesome Sue Ellen!  It's always such a triumph to get a great workout like that.  It's what keeps you tri'ing!

I actually have been a swimmer all of my life. My best competition event in HS was the 500M swim. But I've been out of the swimming scene for quite awhile - I graduated from HS in 1990 and haven't done competition since!

I had started the actual training for the tri only about a week ago - my first real swim was on Sunday (mom's day) to see how hard it would be for me. Only got 500M out in one go, and was exhausted after it! So to be able to swim 1000M four days later and actually feel like I could have gone more is exhilarating!

Some people swim well (i do), some run well (i don't!). I envy the runners at this point! I can only run about 4 minutes without stopping. Very difficult for me.

Thanks for all your encouragement! Makes me feel even better!

Thought I'd revive this thread because I, too, just had the best swim evah! I swam half a mile and felt like I could have done more.

I looked back in my training log and Dec 30th (first swim in a long, long time) I could only swim 1.5 laps at a time without being totally winded. Thanks all of you posters at BT.
