Looking for suggestions on a bike rack for a Honda Accord.

I have looked at Thule and Yakima mostly, and was wondering if anyone has opinions on roof rack vs. trunk racks when it comes to bike transport? Seems like the roof racks are pretty darn expensive compared to the trunk ones. I dont really want to pay 400++ to get my bike around unless there is a really compelling reason to do so, anyone have suggestions?

And if roof rack is the consensus way to go, anyone have a good site to buy parts outside of the LBS?

I know REI sells bike racks, too. But I don't know how their prices might compare to the LBS prices. As for which rack to buy, I guess that depends. In my case, since I'm short, roof mounted racks present themselves as a bit of a challenge that I don't care to deal with. I opted for the hitch mounted version - it doesn't require a step ladder.

I paid just over $200 to rack up my Subaru Forester with a 2-bike Thule system. I think prices will vary depending on your car (how many parts you will need to buy). I don't know how long the sale is on for, but Eastern Mountain Sports was having a 20% off Thule sale last weekend. By the way, if you decide to go with a roof system, don't get the big mouth carriers unless you are tall or have a short car. My husband insisted on getting the big mouth carriers instead of the fork mount  (despite my protests) and now I can't put my bike on the roof without a step, and I'm 5'9!

To pigback this thread without having to start my own. I'm looking for a rack of some sort for an SUV.  Roof rack is almost out because i then couldn't fit into the parking garage.  But i do have a trailer hitch.

We have a Saris T rack that we put on the back of ours.  It's worked really well for what we need, and it's easy to take off if you need to.
