No, not the Zipps (out of my budget now). No NOT the HED's that I had set my sights on (wholesale was not as low as I was hoping it would be, they were also heavier than the Zipps as well) ..............

So I'm getting these - FSA 488's.

50mm section rim, all carbon, tubular, 1390gr for weight, so right around the 808 weight for about half the cost!

I'll be putting on Continental Podium tubulars (looked at Vittoria which were lighter, but my old boss recommended against them and said Conti's are nicer - plus we can employee purcahse them ). They are 3 ply so puncture resistance is gonna be good.

Should be in about two weeks or so (depending on availability).

I also picked up a pair of the Specialized Trivent tri shoes (Peter Reid's shoe design). They are SOOOOO easy to get in an out of, and very breathable.

Woohoo!! Go fast goodies rock!

Greeaaatttt...  now I am going to have to buy a MOTORcycle to catch you on the bike... Those are cool. Are there really cheaper than the HEDs? (Stinger, Hed 3?) I need to buy wheels but between setting my eyes on ITU racing and 70.3 I am stuck and right now I can't afford two sets...

I cannot really say what I am paying for them as I am getting them for wholesale pricing ......

But suffice it to say that the FSA wheels were almost $200 less WHOLESALE than the HED Stingers. If I were to buy the Stingers it would actually make more sense for me to have ordered them from Trisports with the 10% discount than it would be to order them directly from HED at wholesale costs ........

I think retail on the FSA wheel set is around $1,000 or so and retail on the tires is about $90/each.

I really like the FSA wheels........FSA makes some very good products.... I use their carbon cranks. I use Vittoria tires and have had a lot of luck with them. Continental's are good as well.

The shoes are SWEET!

Sounds like you got a nice set of wheels for a good price.  Good compromise over the Zipps, although after listening to a Zipp rep speak at the USAT Coaches Conference last week I think I'll be saving my pennies for a Zipp disc over all the others.

Nice wheels rick.  Your making me uber jealous now, all I wanna do is come back home and ride some hills.  Riding around here is pretty boring, lonnng flattt.

Take care

Sweet wheels!

I'd feel dumb putting $1000 wheels on my $1000 bike though.. I seriously want to do a wheel upgrade though. I have herd it makes a big difference over factory wheels.

You put the money where it counts. You can always swap them out to the "nicer" bike you buy later.

I agree...there is no sense in being cheap with race wheels no matter how nice (or average) your bike is.  The wheels can always migrate to a new bike down the road so get the best you can afford and consider it a long-term investment in your performance.
