have considered this for quite some time: i am out of shape, out of excuses, and have plent of time
Any words of wisdom for someone just just just starting on this path. I am relying on thsi site fora starting point in all phases of my training. Currently I am going to the gym three times per week I ride the stationary bike, them walk on treadmill (w/r program) then I lift. I have not begun any swim training yet but I have my sights set on a mini in august of 2005. Any and all encouragement gladly taken criticism and guidance actively sought. Thanks tripez

Welcome from another clydesdale. We have to stick together to keep all the tiny, skinny people from taking over the world you know! Good work getting started training. You'll be amazed at how fast you start feeling better and faster. Then you'll be hooked and you will start making excuses TO go for a run or bike ride or swim! Keep up the good work and good luck.

It sounds to me like you don't need our encouragement to start; you've already done that! Training three times a week is an excellent start. You have given yourself over a year to get into shape for your first triathlon so you needn't hurry and run the risk of hurting yourself. Concentrate on your breathing for now ... that is probably the most important thing if you are coming out of a long hiatus of inactivity. Also, if you have not already done so, consult your physician before undertaking any strenuous activities. Take a look at the training programs offered on the home page at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/ Maybe the couch to sprint training program might be of use to you. Also, don't be a stranger to this forum, ask any and all questions you might have no matter how trivial you think it might be. The best of luck to you.

Welcome aboard!

The more clydes/athenas the better. When I 1st started tri's 3 years ago, I was exactly where you are. I started by lifting weights and walking jst like you have. You will be amazed at how fast your endurance will improve as you continue. Also, don't be in a rush to add more running to your walk/run cycles. Give your joints and connective tissue time to adjust and strenthen. It's better to move slowly than to have to start all over due to injury.

Good Luck,
Scott

Welcome Tripez

Great start! Log in every day, read some threads, and keep interested. That is how training really become a habit for me! I came off the couch in January, and feel so much better now! Good luck!

great advice on the med check up ............some of my motivation came from my doctor and some less than desirable results from my last physical............LDL to HDL ratios not quite where they should be etc etc. have had a fairly recent stress test and other work ups .............now I just got to keep in the right direction........

thanks for the input
