The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation Today was the first day I rode my bike to work. I enjoyed the right into work- it was actually relaxing for me. I was very excited about it. Now that I only have an hour left of work, I'm dreading the ride home. I'm tired and feel lethargic. Ijust want to take a nap. Has anyone else had the problem of feel tired toward the end of the day and not wanting to bike home? I hope I get some quick energy soon. |

Not that you didn't do good, but you can do alot better than 14th out of 20! He,he. Umm...those results don't show that the winds were at least 20mph that day- no kidding. That bike segment was rough. I know that's still not an excuse but it does help explain my slow speed on the bike. Here's my proof. These results are form my first tri ever last year!

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation Ok- that didn't work. but look who was 2nd out of 12th on the bike last year for my first tri ever?? So I don't totally suck. But I guess it shows I need more practice riding in the wind. Thanks Aaron for getting me fired up!

The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation I don't know about anyone else, but I usually feel VERY sluggish in the afternoon- 3:30pm is the worst. Hopefully it'll pass. And once I get on my bike I should be ready and motivated to get home. Bad thing is that the last 2 miles of the ride are uphill, and these hills don't plateau. It should be interesting. |

Expert 900 Austin, TX | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation I have a similar commute, where the last couple of miles are uphill. I also have had days where I've dreaded the ride home because I've been dragging througout the day. I don't know what your work situation is (I have a couch in my private office), but I'll take a short 10-15 min nap around 2-3 and make sure I eat enough carbs prior to the ride. Usually that helps. Sometimes I just have to push through it and ride slowly. The good news is that the regular commutes to work will give you "free" exercise time and will really help your training along. Keep it up! The Original 7834 Raleigh/Durham | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation OK- I made the commute home yesterday. Luckily my coworker rode back with me. If we didn't commute together I probably wouldn't be motivated enough of my own. Traffic was kinda bad. I had to ride over a bridge that was really windy. I felt like I was getting blown all over the place and there were a few cars that got really close to me. It was a little scarey. The last 2 miles of steady climbs was tough, but not as bad as I thought they would be. Bike commuting is a great way to get in some time in the saddle- I'm going to try to stick with it at least once a week, if not twice. |

Queen BTich 12411 , | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation Think of it as a little extra training time. It will add up. Enjoy the money you'll save on gas! An extra burrito! |

, Texas | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation My first commute to work of this year was Monday. I love my commute as I go through a few neighborhoods and low-traffic streets which makes it much more peacefull than my auto commute. At one stretch, though, I dismount and jog with my bike for about 1/4 - 1/2 mi as it's not the best/safest road to be riding on (crowded 4-lane highway with 1-1/2' shoulder). It does allow me to get some short bricks in I should be continuing this 2-3 times a week through October. My round trip is about 25-27 miles which saves me about $4-$5 in gas per day. I don't exactly have fuel effecient cars |

Elite 3488 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: Commuting to Work on Bike- Need Motivation keep it up! The more you do it, the better you will feel for the ride home and the more energy you will have in the afternoon. I used to have about a 1 hour bike commute, and the first few times I was wiped out in the afternoon (would supplement energy with a few too many Mtn Dew's) and at the end of the ride home. But as it warmed up it was great to go out, the energy was there, and mentally I was so much better after riding home an hour than I was sitting in traffic for 45-50 minutes. Keep it up!!! The benefits are numerous. Gas, mental, training time, and in my case more time with my kids since I didn't need to ride in the evening. |
