My first tri is on Saturday, a sprint, and I have many thoughts going through my head. It is amazing all the things one has to consider prior to competing in a tri and all the things that could conceivably go wrong. To start off with, I was hoping to get a pair of tri shorts but they have not come in and I do not expect they will arrive by tri day so I will do the whole tri in my cycling shorts. There is the amount of equipment and clothing that must be brought to the event, the rules and regulations to follow, the weather which could require me to wear a sleeveless jersey, a long sleeved jersey and/or a shell depending on whether it is hot/cold, dry/rainy. I could even get a flat on the way to the event--I'm biking there--or worse, have an accident!!! Things were a lot simpler when I was simply doing 10Km races; it was simply a matter of donning your running gear and jogging until you reached the finish line!

Michel, you're gonna be great!  Just visualize your race, don't get caught up in anyone elses race, and most of all, have fun!!  Don't fret too much about the shorts, you've got plenty of races left to do the tri short thing.

hey, PM me your phone #, all I have is your daughter's and Agnes' cell!  I wanna call you friday night!  (to make sure your getting a good night's sleep LOL)

don't get caught up in worrying to much. A little stress can do wonders for your competitive drive, but it can also destroy it... just keep your cool and stay focused and you'll do awesome. good luck!

Well, I suppose I should relax about it; I know I can do the distance in all three legs without a problem. I guess that I'm about as ready as I'll ever be. The only complication is the fact that I have to remember to pack everything for the tri and the following day I have to pack everything for a trip. I'll pick up my tri kit tomorow after work; that will be one less item to think of.

You'll do great. Visualize success. Don't worry about the tri shorts, back in '83 I did a half Ironman in chamois cycling shorts, was no problem. Had never heard of tri specific clothing back then. Making a list of stuff to take, and bagging stuff by event may help. Good luck and have fun.

Subject: Tri Kit Let-down
Hey, I picked up my tri kit yesterday afternoon. Let's see, I got a t-shirt for the early registration, I got one numbered bib, one safety pin, one gel pack, one foot gel, and ten ads mostly for running and running magazines! That is not exactly what I was thinking of when they advertised that the tri kit would contain "all sorts of goodies!" The rules say that I MUST wear a bathing cap and that it would be supplied; when I asked about it, I was told that I would have to buy one because they had not received their shipment! We are off to a bad start folks!!! Oh well, it's going to rain tomorow for the tri so that might give me an edge as I ride in the rain all the time.

Michel,

Don't sweat the small stuff--make a list of what you need to bring and make sure you check it prior to leaving home. Buy the stupid cap, if you need to, and enjoy the day. Remember your goal--to finish your first tri--and "just do it".

Good Luck
Evelyn
