For those of you who wanted to complete an Irondistance Race this year but all the IM's were filled, I came across a IM distance race scheduled for October 9. It is a first year race and is relatively inexpensive($295). It is put on by the company that does the Columbia Tri. Which is a very popular race.

There is another Iron/Half-Iron race that is a first year race this year too. It's in the central part of Washington State in the city of Grand Coulee. A portion of the race actually crosses Grand Coulee Dam! Last I checked the half-Iron race was about 1/2 full and the full Ironman was not very full at all. It's a good opportunity for those of you on the West Coast or thereabouts to get into a race without much trouble.

the only thing i might caution (esp. if it's going to be your first and you are weakest in the swim) is that i'd expect the swim to be rough. i've never done eagleman, but know many who have and that's the most consistent comment. every once in awhile you get a good year with not too much chop, but it is called the Choptank for a reason.
