Subject: BT body marking

Jeep's 1st-of-the-season "Who's Racing?" thread reminded me of something that I thought I'd bring up after looking at the photos of the group from Gasparilla.

I suggest that whenever you're racing, put something on your left leg so that other BT'ers will know you and can cheer for you as you "go by/get passed/are pulled over on the side of the road hurling getting a drafting penalty".

I think they did it at Gasparilla where you put BT at your knee and your screenname (or some understandable variant thereof) going down your leg.

Just a thought, but I'd like to see it become commonplace so that everyone, especially those who are doing some 1st races this season will feel more at home in the pack.

I thought about this the other day as well. You know how the pros have fake tatoos of their sponsors on their arms... What about a BT logo tatoo. One it can identify those of us who are on BT and know each other and two promote BT!!! Ron what do ya say BT tatoos????

yeah, Janice (foolproof) brought a sharpie to GAsparilla, but I think only she nad I actually wrote our screen names out. caused a huge mess later in the day when I smeared sun block on myself!  But it was fun, lots of people asked about it..

I think it might have been Max who first suggested it a year ago. It is a great way to meet others and have more fun.

Bring your own sharpie, skip the body marking line and do it yourself!

I get a bit sad when I read a BTers RR who did the same race I did, but we didn't know each other or know what each other looked like and missed each other at the race and only catch up later on-line.

Left Calf BT sure helps find others when racing...I make it a game. One race I did last year I kept asking are you Chris? Found some people who knew Chris and finally he passed me and it made my run so much more fun.

You'll know it's me at races this year as I'll be sporting my BT race tri stuff!

    Great reminder!!

Someone want to take the idea and run with it, there are sites out there that allow you to design custom tatoos, realtively cheap. Here's one:

    http://www.tattoosales.com/CustomTattoo.aspx

3,000 2X2s for $170=~$0.06 Find thirty BTers willing to kick in $6 (even $10 to pay for the trouble) for 100 tatoos. I'd go for it...

Works alright for a running race, but wouldn't the "custom" leg marking interfere with the "official" triathlon body marking (age/bib#)?

Isn't that only supposed to be on the right leg?  That's sort of why I suggested the left leg or use a different color than black.

Some tris do your age on one leg and the bib # on the other.

I will pay $10 dollars in a heart beat. Are there any USAT sanctions against something like this???

count me in too, but I'll bet USAT says only if you have washboard abs.

Add me to the list for $10. Can this be arranged through Pay-Pal? I'll be doing my first tri this fall summer. Most likely a sprint, until I get more stamina for my running.

but would a 2x2 tatoo be large enough to be noticed during a race? Especially on the bike. I'm not going to be looking at everybody who passes me while I'm busy trying to make sure I don't fall off my bike yet again...

Not that I have a better suggestion that would work during the race, although I bet there are lots of things pre- and post-race that would work well....caps, t-shirts, etc etc

This is a great idea. I've sent Ron a heads up, so hold off on doing anything until "fearless leader" himself chimes in.

Personally I intend to be a flailing/rolling/shuffling BT billboard this year.

I would think that if there were USAT sanctions against tattoos, a large number of people would be in trouble.

I like the idea of a BT tattoo so members can easily identify each other. Even if a name is not used, its a great ice breaker--"HEY BT!!! I'm ________." We do a similar thing with work: I belong to a national group, and at industry conferences we members wear pins on our name badges to identify ourselves to each other, and also promote awareness of our group.

Same here but the BT tatoo would be a neat something extra. It could be used afterwards if you change into something else so people can find the fellow BTers

THis is a great idea. Count me in. And yes I think 2x2 would be as good as writting on the back of the leg since by the time you see the back of the leg, the person has gone by....

Slightly related question - whether we are talking uniforms, sharpies or tattoos are people going "BT" at non-tri events?  Run only, bike only type events.  I'm just curious.  For example, someone with a BT tri suit, will you be wearing it at "run only" events this year?
