Subject: Hi from Toronto!!
Hi Everyone,

Everyone on this site seems so friendly and encouraging, I just had to write in and introduce myself!

I am 33 yo and live in the Toronto area - married no kids (yet). I never imagined I would even consider doing a tri - hated working out at the gym and was becoming overweight. Running wasn't even an option (so I thought) - it looked so boring, and I couldn't even run for 20 seconds straight! Well, all that is changing! I've recently completed a 25lb weight-loss with Weight Watchers (I'm now Lifetime - yay!) and I am well into the Learn to Run program at the local Running Room. I LOVE IT!!!

Tri's have always intrigued me, but never in a million years think of myself actually participating in one! I love to swim and cycle, but haven't been doing much of either lately, especially since our bikes were stolen early last summer!! I found this site a couple of days ago, and it is really inspiring me to go on. My first goal is to complete my first 5k run (which I have registered for in June), then to join the 10k clinic. After that, I will beef up my cycling and swimming training. I plan to do a Try-a-Tri perhaps by early next spring/summer.

That's it for me - just wanted to say hi, and to let you all know that I'm glad I have found this site! If anyone in the Toronto are can recommend a Tri event for me to watch or even participate in, let me know. Also, where can I join a training group? Thanks!

Ladybug (catching the bug for sure!)

Hello fellow Canadian teammate,

Great to have you here!!!  Any of the Subaru tri series (www.trisportcanada.com) are well organized races.  Many of them have try a tri's too for beginners.  I will be at the Peterborough Sprint July 11 which is a fun race.

Hi Ladybug, and welcome to the site from a fellow Canuck--westcoaster. You will love this forum for all kinds of info, inspiration and encouragement-- no matter what the topic.
You might think of looking for a sprint, or mini sprint for late in the year. I actually found one in October here on the westcoast that I might do for my last one of the year.

Congrats on the weight loss--l've lost 50 with another 20 or so to go--I know how you feel. Running is soooo much fun now!!! My daughter weighs 56 pounds and I can't imagine carrying her around all day, plus doing exercise as well!!!!

Since you're the ladybug, I guess you've already been bitten by the tri bug!!!

Cheers

Darlene

Welcome from a fellow Canadian, I'm about 40 min north of you in the Caledon area. If you would like to see a Tri first hand we are holding the Caledon KOS ( Kids of Steel ) Triathlon this weekend. There will be over 600 kids participating, the largest KOS tri in Canada. Let me know if you would like the link for directions. There is also a sprint tri for the adults in the afternoon.
