I was quite upset today after our bike group time trial.  A rider got hit by a car and broke their left leg.  I don't know what really happened - it was raining, so it could have been a slide, or an accident at the turn around point.  The road that we ride on is busier than usual due to the closing of part of a nearby highway.

I felt bad for having such a good ride.  This all occurred way behind me, and I had no idea until I saw the ambulance and police go by after I finished.

On another note, I am off to Toronto for two days to present at a conference.  The conference centre that we stay at has a 25m pool and a full gym!!!  I think I packed more workout clothes than anything else

That sucks about the Biker.  Maybe your club should look into less crowded areas for now until the construction ends. Have fun in Toronto.

I was in an accident on a group ride this morning. It feels horrible. Another rider and I collided. It all happened so fast. I was lucky. I landed in a ditch on my head and right shoulder. The helmet cracked but my head is fine (helmet did its job) and the shoulder is killing me but OK. The other guy hit the pavement and is at the hospital with a partially collapsed lung. I am waiting to hear if hes being admitted so I can go visit. Of course you always wonder, how could that have been prevented? Its very upsetting.

I too have benn "involved" in a group ride accident. I was leading a pace line on wet roads with newly painted white lines . A rider lost tracktion on the line and wipped out. About ten others piled on. Surprisingly other than bumps and bruises and a few brokes spokes all were ok.

Anyway hope the other two riders recover soon. Joe

I found out what actually happened the other day.  The rider was down on his aerobars, and a car passed him just like all the others.  He did not know that the car pulled over onto the shoulder ( because they missed their turn) as his head was down.  He hit them going 35km/hr, and went over the car after making a dent in it.  He has a sore leg, but otherwise is OK - that is a relief.  I guess the moral of  the story is to always look up now and then.  I don't have aerobars, so I am never really looking down.
