Subject: Opinions needed for Orca S1 Speedsuit

I found a nice deal ($175.00) on an Orca S1 Speedsuit and would like to hear any comments anyone would like to share concerning this wetsuit.  I'm 6'1", 260 lbs. and have a 40" waist and 50" chest.  I was wondering how these fit (looking at buying an 11) and how well they hold up.  Is this a decent price for this suit?

This September, I'll be running my first sprint triathlon.  After reading the posts on the benefits of wetsuits, I've decided to purchase one, but only if the price is right.

I bought an Orca S1 about this time last year. I think it was in the neighborhood of $220 (not on sale). So sounds like you're getting a fair price.

I'm 6'2", probably about 225 at the time I bought it, ~38" waist, ~44" chest. I got a 10. I tried the 11, but it wasn't snug enough around the chest and shoulders for me. Sounds like you have a wider chest so the 11 would probably work for you. I think getting the correct fit around the neck, chest, and shoulders is the most important part of the fit becuase that's where you need both good shoulder movement but also need to keep water from coming into the suit.

I've had no problems with it. I've used it at 4 or 5 triathlons and a few training sessions. It's held up well.

Good luck in your training and your upcoming tri!

I have the sleeveless Orca Speedsuit-7 .. not sure of the difference, but I absolutely love mine and am looking forward to racing in it at the end of the month.

See St. A's thread re: wet suits, water temperatures and rules ... it is possible that by September the water temperature will be above 84 degrees.

You might want the check the race website and/or contact the host organization to see if wetsuits are commonly legal (they wont be able to tell for certain whether they will be legal this race in that it is dependent upon the water temperature the day before the race).

Good luck with your training!

I hired an S1 for a couple of sprints races earlier in the year and found it to be a good entry level wetsuit. I just brought an Orca speedsuit (the next one up) only becuase Orca were offering them for the same price as the S1.

I did find that the S1 and the speedsuit took a number of swims before it became comfortable to race in.

I would have brought the S1 had they not had a good deal on the speedsuit.

I have one. Haven't had any problems with but can't compare it with any others. It's a good deal!
